Very enjoyable Wednesday Wine Committee lunch today with @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt hosting. Same format as always...1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine all tasted blind.
This was plush and dense while also being very youthful and gripping. Dark fruit dominant. Black Forest cake, dark cocoa dusted dates, roasted plum and a touch of saddle leather. I called this left bank 2012 vintage. — 6 years ago

This had a sense of familiarity to it. It reminds me of a lighter version of Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve. Similar notes of baked key lime pie and toasted oak on the nose, but the palate showed less honey/nougat. Maybe more limestone. Very solid. I called it NV French champagne. — 6 years ago
We make our annual trip out to Napa in about a week and a half, so I’m enjoying some wines from producers we are visiting. This is from Modus Operandi Cellars. The winemaker, Jason, has become a friend and was who helped Weston from Montagu Wines get started in the beginning. Jason submitted his Modus wines for review to Wine Advocate for the first time and did incredibly well (multiple 93-97pt wines). We are having lunch with Jason on our trip and look forward to his new releases.
The blend on this changes year to year I believe. The aromatics here and very dark and scorched. Roasted plum, dark cocoa dusted dates, cinnamon and licorice. I even picked up some Bordeaux like saddle leather here too. On the palate, it’s got chalky tannin with ripe blue and black fruit, black pepper, and an herbal finish. — 6 years ago
Heck of a 3rd Friday to kick off the holidays!
Incredible nose. Potpourri, milk chocolate, almost like a coconut/American oak like nose but it reigns it in just before it becomes full blown. Blueberry and toasted blackberries on the palate...a sweetened charcoal/liqueur finish. So silky. Wonderful bottle from @Weston Eidson — 7 years ago
@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.
What an absolute treat. Sarah Francis has crafted some incredible wines, and is a close friend of Weston (from Montagu wines). She’s received monster scores and her quantity is minuscule. That being said, I called this 2012 (right vintage) Aubert (wrong producer), specifically one of their Carneros Chardonnays (got the region right!). It had a lemon cream and lemon tart richness to it with high acidity. Like Aubert’s Hudson was mixed with Aubert’s Lauren. Incredible Chardonnay. — 7 years ago

This producer was new to me. Loved it! The nose has such dark fruit wrapped in smoked/chargrilled meats. Not overly savory and zero funk, but just a killer mesh of sweet and savory. Tobacco, graphite, cassis up front with a finish of blackberry pie, leather, and herbs de Provence. This could be a wonderful wine in 7-10yrs. I called this left bank 2012 vintage. — 6 years ago

When compared to the other two whites, this had more obvious oak. Very light notes of sweet lemon cream, brioche, and sea salt. My favorite of the flight. I called this burgundy between mersault or chassagne-Montrachet. — 6 years ago
Another very nice effort from @Weston Eidson. This Pinot is unabashedly big. — 6 years ago
Solid 95. Almost want to give this one a 96. If I was planning to stay longer, this wine would have been within arm's length of me at all times. Full-bodied, correct Syrah done extremely well from Hyde fruit. Pours with a purple hue, with a delicate yet complex nose of herbs, flowers, mint(?), chocolate, and fruit. The entry of this wine is powerful. Lots of dark fruit with a hint of chocolate. The middle is balanced buy an herbal quality did I would stop really short of calling a funkiness in the traditional sense. It seems to touch down on these notes to give you just enough of a hint. Finishes with an earthy and Dusty resin, but it is quite fruity on the Finish as well. This was the most balanced wine on the table. Gave you every single characteristic you could hope to obtain in a Syrah. Bravo @Weston Eidson I will be buying me sommathis!! Has the structure to go 10 years. — 6 years ago
Normally I post a glass with wine. With a wine bottle that still has wine. Nope. Not. Tonight. Not. This. One. #thisisNapaSB. Kickin' some ass tonight @Weston Eidson — 6 years ago
Glad I have two more of these, because this one is SINGING tonight. I am almost 100% certain that I had the chance to taste this one not too long ago and thought it was kind of in a strange place. This one is clearly in the start of the drink window tonight! Blackberry, black licorice, hint of sweeter cocoa on the middle. Dusty tannin on the finish with Rutherford dust. 45 to 60 second finish. Really nice. This one is a baby as well with all the youthful and punchy fruit. I see some more integration out of this one. Drink over the next 7 years, maybe 10. Beautiful wine @Weston Eidson — 7 years ago
Weston hosted Friday group today and was it definitely a can’t miss tasting. Wow! Absolutely knocked it out of the park with heavy hitter after heavy hitter. Similar to Wednesday group, all wines are tasted blind.
My first Maybach. From the first time it was poured in my glass until the last taste, this was my favorite (though the ‘13 Macdonald tied it in the end). Sweet rhubarb pie on the nose, palate was very clean...not overdone. Red, blue and black fruits, nutmeg and red cinnamon. Insanely good. — 7 years ago

Lovely aromatics here. Mix of red and black fruit. Tar, pipe tobacco, graphite and black cherry cola. This picked up steam the longer it was open. I’d hold these. I called this left bank 2012 vintage. — 6 years ago

Out of the four reds, this changed the most in the glass. Very floral and pretty. Sweetness tobacco, black cherries, and an herbal finish. Potpourri too. I called this right bank post 2010 vintage. Youthful for sure. — 6 years ago
Never had a sparkler like this. Slightly oxidative with rhubarb tart and bright/ripe bing cherries on the nose. Not much chalk or limestone on the palate...or citrus notes of any kind. Mousse was fairly light. There was a really unique sweet red fruit characteristic I was struggling to identify...overripe honeycrisp apple, maybe? Fun to try. Thanks @Weston Eidson — 6 years ago
Monthly WTF wine group meet up. No true theme this month. Some wines tasted blind.
This was not tasted blind by me. On the nose, Red clay, underripe red and black fruit. Dusty and young...earthy. Ripe and lush on the palate...candied cherry, saddle leather and herbal spice. Drinking well, but plenty of time ahead and not yet at peak. Thanks @Weston Eidson — 6 years ago
Monthly WTF wine group meet up.
Potpourri, fresh squeezed blackberries, currant, and candied teriyaki. Plush on the palate, with more acidity than ‘14. Structure here seems more beefed up. I waited an hour or so to try, and it was very soft. Full fruit spectrum (red, blue and black). Muddled mulberry with a flavor punch finish. Thanks for opening @Weston Eidson . — 7 years ago
Weekly Wednesday Wine Committee and this was a special treat as not only was Weston from Montagu Wines in attendance, but Jason Moore, owner and winemaker for Modus Operandi Wines out of Napa. Blind format as always. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert.
One of the more crisp sparklers I’ve had. Had the chalky minerality through and through, but after a while, it gained a bruised pear note aside from the typical Granny Smith apple tartness. This will age nicely. — 7 years ago

Heck of a hosting by @Weston Eidson last night for the City Club wine group. All wines were tasted blind.
This was very light and refreshing. Could see this being super easy to sip on these hot TX summer days. Tons of green apple, pear, citrus and chalky limestone. Right down the middle. I called this non vintage champagne. — 6 years ago
