Initially a balsamic note that blew off. Cedar and beet greens, tobacco and weathered, dry, dead tree and rum-soaked cherry greet the nose. Elegant mouthfeel with pronounced tar and burnt toast over black currant and Kalamata olives, prune, black sands, red cherry, and blackberry. Chewy, delicious and a sure sign Halloween is in the air! — 10 years ago
Wasn't quite sure at the start since the cork looked completely ruined...but the wine was actually still well preserved. Amazingly, still bright and lively but much softer and weathered. Could be a little bret in there but not enough to be completely defining. Still fun and still a 31 year old magnum. — 11 years ago
Pure Napa Cab. Great balance, great flavor. This 2005 has weathered the decade very nicely. Great compliment to the NY strip steak tonight. — 10 years ago
Peppery, barnyard, weathered rose, sandalwood. Dry. Light in color with nice fines. Silky tannins. Vanilla bean on the finish. — 10 years ago
The weathered label alone told me this was going to be a treat. It seemed to say "I've been waiting for you for 54 years" and it's time. Wow I need to try more ports. Very complex, like your grandfathers stories of war. Drink them in, for they are true history. Tell me more Gamps, tell me more. — 11 years ago
Overly fruity but not sweet hot weathered wine. $12 / 88pts — 12 years ago
First nose hit is an explosion blasting of black powder mellowing to burnt dark chocolate cast against a pot of mashed rutabaga strangely accented by cherry - a dirty mix not match - "it makes me wonder..." All that lingers, as I pull a first blush taste across and through my lips letting it pool while its vege tannins play water polo with the fruit ultimately merging into a tie that settles nicely but with a less than fortunate short finish - spent from the unresolved conflict where the action above succumbs to the tredding battle below the rim. If you are able or even interested swimmer, then take a shallow dive into this sweat weathered pool, nasty but rewarding...

One of my all time favorite Rieslings. Bought this 2004 at the winery in 2006. Excellent mineral laden character, as I'd recalled, and weathered as well as hoped with piercing stone fruit still buoyant and finishing bone dry. — 10 years ago
Raspberry and blackberry nose with slight rose petal notes. Pomegranate red colour. Medium body with well balanced red and black berry fruit sweetness and acidity (medium plus). Mouthwatering juicy and tangy mouthfeel. On the palate is a ripe red raspberry and blackberry platter with features of ripe cherries and a medium minus feature of french oak foundation. Well structured acidity and fruit with medium minus presence of tannins. Personable of low sweetness strawberry purée from a weathered cedar plank goblet. This is an excellent Italian competitor of a Paso Robles Californian Zinfandel with shared DNA structure ( overseas family). Enjoy with pulled pork nachos or chipotle chicken with smoked cheddar pizza. — 11 years ago
Weathered leather, dark and brooding with a fun funky underbrush thing going on. Fantastic. — 11 years ago

Its like a Listrac-Mèdoc grown at elevation. What an interesting wine. Black currants, black berries, weathered leather, crushed herbs, and roasted spices such as anise. The Merlot tannins are smooth and dusty, but it's the acidity that really sets it apart from other Napa blends. — 10 years ago
