Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

This is a beautiful wine. Tannins shed, drinking like velvet and pure. Berries, cherries, some leather, and a long finish. I could sit with this and a charred steak every night. — 9 years ago

Dark, rich, and dusty. It's hard to avoid the power of suggestion, but this really is liquid velvet. — 9 years ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1994

Dark and brooding tawny purple, opaque. Killer nose of smoked meat, bacon, white pepper, red plums and stone. Rich velvet texture in the mouth. Coats the palate. Performing very well right now. — 10 years ago

Such a balanced new world merlot - dark fruit & earth & chocolate. Restrained & serious. Not wearing that new world velvet cloak 😉 — 10 years ago

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2002

15-year old California Cab Blend does NOT disappoint. This had a wonder black fruit/dark/chocolate/forest floor nose, wonderful velvet mouth feel, fine integrated tannins, long finish. The 3rd hour it hit its stride! — 9 years ago

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1961

Deep garnet with amber rims, almost opaque. A little darker compared to the 82 CB next to it. Great old Bordeaux nose. Black fruit, pencil lead, plus some light notes of wood. Chewy in the mouth at first but over the night this goes to a velvet and silky place. The WOTN for me. Quieted down at the end of the night but gave us huge enjoyment, clearly outshining the 47 and 82 served with it. Tasting all these blind and then side by side over 4 hours is pretty awesome. — 9 years ago

Wow. More flavor, much better than their regular cab. Silky, velvet, smooth. Chocolate. Rich fruit. Big, full flavor, lots of flavor. Not old world style for sure, not subtle. It's a big bomb. We would pay up to $75 for this so a bit overpriced to us.

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Fantastic bottle of wine that was completely reflective of the house and the vintage, powerful velvet covered magic carpet ride of deep red fruits...concentrated and weighty yet showed a lot of finesse. I'd say it has 15+ years — 10 years ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

Clearly one of my favourites from Bordeaux. A very under rated vintage under the shadow of 2000's. Iron fist in a velvet glove is what I think of this lovely wine. Spherical, sexy and very serious.18,5 ++/20 — 13 years ago
