Dark blue blooded. Still primary fruit but lovely poised gamey dark flavors. A little simple and cold on the palate. Interesting to see where this goes. A very good wine for the vintage but the vintage shines through. — 8 years ago
Beaucastel is by far my favorite chateauneuf, killed this one a little young but was still a very rich and bold but nicely balanced Bordeaux. Dark cherry and dark chocolatey notes. — 9 years ago
Very young - this is wine for the cellar. Dark spice, hints of green herbs. The nose is like walking into a Chinese herb shop. Crushed chalk. Plum skins. Texture is very smooth with deep hints of baking chocolate dusting. This is quite the thoroughbred Cabernet: Elegant, Pure, Pristine, and Powerful. $175 at winery. — 10 years ago
Great nose. Very smooth. We were introduced to this great wine at a restaurant. We are going to go out and buy a few bottles. — 10 years ago
Full bodied, dark, and smooth. Semi-fruity with subtle tannins. Very drinkable. — 11 years ago
Has a lot of mineral characteristics, very dark color almost plum like. Has a Pinot like flavor qualities, but still rich texture and finishes very dry. — 11 years ago
The Clark & Telephone Vineyard PN gave me a long lasting impression, and this Las Alturas is very similar in style in its richness and intensity.
Ripe plum, blackberry jam, eucalyptus, fig, black tea, and Chinese medicinal herbs bursting on the nose. Palate has more texture and a more elegant feel with dark chocolate and spice. Firm and a bit dusty tannins. This tastes more like a blend of Zinfandel and Cab. Nice! But again this is not the type of PN I like. — 7 years ago
Very smooth, nice blend for group with unspecified tastes. Nice full body for the the price point. — 8 years ago
Very beautiful, smooth, dark berries, leather. 2011 vintage. Love it! Made my lasagna taste even better! — 9 years ago
Absolutely yummy. The nose is light compared to the taste. The nose has hints of minerality and dark fruits. The pallet is smoky, full of dark fruits, med body and very balanced. I agree with being wrapped in a blanket. It's a chilly night and this warmed me right up! — 10 years ago
Now this is a great wine. Dark in color, almost black with a purple rim.
Magnificent nose with blueberries, figs, plums, and herbs.
Sweet candies on the palate with blueberries, cranberry, dried figs, raisins, peppercorn.
Big, bold and beautiful with gorgeous legs.
Smooth and sexy long finish with bold tannins and ripen fruits.
Great right out of the bottle. After 2 hours in the decanter, chewy tannins on the finish. This is not my first, and definitely not my last. Very consistent from year to year.

Very rich with flavor. More flavor then the regular red ménage a trois. Both are great! — 8 years ago
Nose of; blackberries, black cherries, black plum, black raspberries, dark roasted coffee, black licorice with fresh & dry florals. Palate of; blackberries, blueberries, black plum, black raspberries, violets, dry roses, notes of tar, black licorice, used coffee grounds, M+ tannins, caramel, dark chocolate, gentle spices, beautiful even finish with big acidity. Photos show one of their "Dead Arm vineyards" with a visual example of the term dead arm. Also, a shot of their very busy tasting bar. — 8 years ago
Salted caramel nose. Resolved blackberries, dark cherries, mulberries, cooked black plum, soft leather, sweet dark earth, star anise, light cinnamon salted milk chocolate, super elegant with a very long finish. Paired well with steak, lamb and duck due to it's long bottle evolution. Drink now as it's hit it's stride. — 10 years ago
Shockingly easy to enjoy now, this is quite a different experience than I was expecting. Though somewhat divergent from its typically firmer structure, it was great because we had it with a meal and could enjoy it immediately. The color has a deep purple-red core, with vibrant ruby edges. The nose was youthful with a medium+ intensity , showing dark red and black fruits, mocha and coffee bean. The flavors came in waves on the palate, layering with elegance and consistency to a long, fruit, oak and subtle spice finish. Not what I expected, but very enjoyable and priced much better here in Spain. @ Asador Extebarri #valbuena #vegasicilia #riberadelduero — 10 years ago
I was intrigued by the label! Very pleasantly surprised! Richer than expected - juicy and velvety smooth with a nice dryness. — 11 years ago
Favorite wine ever. Very fruit forward and smooth, strong and complex. Deep, dark berry notes, slight charcoal and spice middle with smooth, cool, rich, complex finish. — 12 years ago
