Nose has summer roses, dried raspberry, wet leather, cherry pipe tobacco and old woodshop dust.
Palate has fresh raspberry, dried raspberry, dried cherry, old licorice with strong, dusty tannins. Decanted +10h and this wine is still a beast, I thought it would be, but wanted a progress check.
Paired to a long and slow cooked Bolognese sauce over Pappardelle. The wine worked well with the dish, albeit youthful. We're breaking our rule of 20Y min. on Barolo tonight. (I can't wait to drink the 2016's in 2036+, I hope I can still taste wine then...π€ͺ and maybe Delectable will provide an Android update in that timeframe.)
(Interesting post dinner note, enjoying the wine with dark chocolate covered caramel with sea salt and we're pulling a fun blueberry trait on the palate.) β 5 years ago
Needed to test against the Walt! By comparison, much more balanced and well-rounded. Surprisingly I'm finding this continues to evolve. In such a short timeframe that concerns me. But to the victor goes the spoils. Still catching raspberry, spice, and tea, with some slight hints of rhubarb on the rear. I continue to be impressed by the '13. It's really underrated, especially considering the price. Sadly, the '14 was not as impressive. Eagerly awaiting '15. β 8 years ago
2016 vintage. Tasted after opened (not decanted) 2.5 hours prior. Medium-heavy body. If blind tasting, probably would have tried to slot this as a Shafer Hillside Select: 2012-2015 timeframe given the feminine style with enduring finish but this has more bod. This was very nice yet personally prefer their grippier Signature Cab which is, roughly, half the price of this vehicle. 02.22.25. β 8 months ago
Tastes like tfw you forget someone's name and are wondering how you're going to search their last email but then randomly scroll to the general timeframe of when you think you last communicated and find their name immediately. Then you're so excited you pour yourself a celebratory glass of bread and butter cab. β 6 years ago
Cherry, candy, slight leather and and medium long finish. Really enjoyed that the back of the label had a proposed timeframe for when to drink. Had with an older lamb shank and paired well. Tannins were softer. Very enjoyable and would definitely have again. β 7 years ago
I bought this by the case when it was around in 2001-2003 timeframe, I cellared them and tasted over time - they hit their peak around the 8-10 years from vintage, and the last one remains... I hope that it isn't vinegar! The wine is an excellent full bodied wine with strong fruit-berry flavours!

This beautiful cab dominant blend (15% merlot) promises to be one of their best vintages in a long while. Dark fruits with a depth of flavor uncharacteristic for an only slightly big medium-bodied wine. Playfully spicy with a good tannic core. This got better each day over a 5 day timeframe. This is gonna be a great wine in 5 years. β 3 years ago

βAny aspiring collectors should add a case of this to their stash. The 2004 Numanthia comes from a different terroir with a different clone of Tinta de Toro. The vines for this cuvee range from 70-100 years of age with tiny yields of 1 ton of fruit per acre. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel followed by 19 months in new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine is a glass-coating opaque purple with a killer nose of mineral, pencil lead, wild blueberry, and blackberry liqueur that roars from the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, dense, and already beginning to show complexity within its layers of spicy black fruits. There is immense power, well-concealed ripe tannin, and the well-delineated finish lasts for over one minute. This is a sensational effort which in a perfect world should be cellared for a decade and enjoyed over the following 25+ years. However, the elderly among us should not feel guilty about opening a bottle now. (JM) (2/2007)β β 6 years ago
Had this wine as part of our 19 year wedding anniversary meal. At 19 years from vintage, this wine is showing incredibly well. Tannins are still firm and there is an excellent, overall, structure that I would say should hold for another 5-10 years. I wish I had another bottle or two to try in that timeframe. β 9 years ago

Fragrance of black cherry and spice. Carries over to the palate. Smooth at 8 years old though not overly complex. What you would expect of a fine Napa Cab in this timeframe. September 2025 β 2 months ago
