Opened yesterday and 2/3rd of the bottle was left to rest. Yesterday the nose was made of tar, cigare, cedar and oaky notes. There was very little fruit. 24 hours after the same notes are still showing but I can smell some cassis, some meat juice and a tiny peppery note. This is very concentrated and intense. The palate is very well made with a very strong acid drive, some very nice matter on the sides, a great width, a plush mouthfeel, some cassis and meaty, salty touches, a great mid palate with grainy, dusty tannins that power up a very long finish that tend to expand on the rear: there is that grainy, dusty layer of tannins that carries on for a very long time, these cassis notes that bring a bit of tanginess, and some smoky, oaky notes linger for a while too. This is an aristocratic wine and my last bottle will rest for another 10 years at least. Off vintage but great bottle — 3 years ago
Really good. A little young but still good on the nose and light finish at the same time. Not incredibly complex but still intriguing. I could drink a LOT of this often. — 6 years ago
I’m really beginning to see this transition where the 2013s-16s of Rhône and Burgundy are already so drinkable and showing ripe fruit. Like they are making them to drink now, this winemaking style is showing a little more fruit extraction and from what I’ve seen here in Napa, you’re sacrificing the ability to age there for the early drinkability. Hopefully I’m wrong and these are all just warmer vintages. I just wanna see these wines reach their potential 10/20 years out — 7 years ago
Unique blend. A little sweet. Good table wine. Not for everyone though. Kinda breaks the rules of red wine. — 10 years ago
This is an excellent wine. Full, robust, and had a little spice to it. — 11 years ago
Outstanding. A little light in body. But wow. So delicious. — 10 months ago
Taken to Hawksmoor in NYC for our uncle’s 75th. Decanted in hotel for 7 hrs before dinner. Dark reddish amber edges with dark tawny color center. Opaque. Great aged Bordeaux nose. Notes of black fruit, tobacco and cigar, cassis, old desk wood, saddle leather, some anise, some barnyard and a little mint. Rich and silky in the mouth. Long finish. The bottle (mid shoulder) wasn’t in as good of condition as the one we had a few weeks ago, but the outcome was similar. Family and the Somm all loved it, as did I. — 3 years ago
Same as always. Little acidity to this bottle but same consistent sweet vanilla you come to expect — 6 years ago
1984 vintage. Cork difficult to extract, ended up in several pieces. Beautiful deep color, little to no bricking even at this age. Seductive at one hour+ of air with black cherry, raspberry, some vanilla, green pepper, graphite. 12% ABV. From the FIL’s collection. — 6 years ago
Opened at Bluebird with Leslie & Celia after checking wedding dress venues and to celebrate the completion of Hannah’s New South Wales project. — 8 years ago
Ripe cherry nose with subtle earthy notes. Just a hint of the merde. Really interesting, a little funky. — 8 years ago
Magnum 1991 Joseph Phelps Insignia CS. Dinner at T w neighbors. Drank alongside the '90 Latour out of magnum. We didn't decant this as long as the Latour and out of the gate, this wine was a little tight. However, by the end of dinner, this was the clear winner. Just held up and got better as the night progressed. — 9 years ago
Perfect way to finish off a stunning meal. Dark golden yellow. With lots of hay and wheat on the nose. Super thick syrupy texture with tons of honey and honeysuckle. Possibly has had little TCA. Great acidity (6/10) and full bodied. Long finish too with lots of life left in it! Drink till 2030. — 9 years ago
Savory is the word. A hint of tobacco, white pepper and a little vegetal. — 11 years ago
Last bottle! Being discontinued at the restaurant — 12 years ago
2008 vintage. Had never come across the "Little Hill" until today. Light-medium body. Decanted and was fairly musty for 2-3 minutes before it started to blossom. Some blue fruit/menthol/eucalyptus throughout the experience. Demonstrative spice component on the back end. Could really only ding this on being slightly "watery" on the front palate. Otherwise, this is kicking now and has plenty of life and love to give. 5.27.23 — 3 years ago
Decanted and really opened up in little more than half an hour. 54 years and still has vitality. There’s still some fruit but it is mixed with subtle acidity and soft tannins. A delight to drink and share with friends. Our friend was given the wine and wanted to share it. We all were quite happy.👍🍷🍷 — 5 years ago
A really nice dry rose. At times felt a little sparkly — 6 years ago
2014. Just really good. May have aged a little longer, but definitely drinkable right now. — 6 years ago

Tasted blind. Tawny but still with a dark ruby core. Nose has diverse notes of dried cherries, brush, some soil and a little eucalyptus. Rich and has perfect balance in the mouth. With the last sip this wine had 9+ hours of air and it was still perfectly balanced. This started great and stayed on a plateau of greatness all night. — 9 years ago
What can I say? I love a granache. — 9 years ago
Still a little closed — 10 years ago
Very ripe and pure on the nose, though a little woody, — 10 years ago

In its prime, tannins are rounded, good body. Just a little too much vanilla/oak for my taste. — 9 months ago
