I may have a new favorite Japanese beer, actually brewed in Japan ! Orion had been my go to real Brewed in Japan beer but this rice beer has a little better flavor and a better match with my sushi and saké. And only $4. For 22oz bottle at Sinju in the Pearl seems like a bargain — 9 years ago
Back in the early 2000s, I loved this wine. It was my "splurge" wine that I'd spend a little more on for a special Saturday night. After a few drinks, I frequently broke into, "My name is Alfiero Boffa. You killed my father. Prepare to die." All these years later, I stumbled upon it again in a random (and fairly scuzzy) beer and wine store. It's very familiar to me. Astringent to the point of me calling it sour, but the red cherry flavor dominant. In the background, some earthiness, maybe even tobacco? All over smooth though. Silky. This is not a big huge wine, but silkiness at this more subtle scale is amazing. I'm so glad I found it again so many years later. My na me is Alfiero Boffa. You killed my father. Prepare to die. — 10 years ago
The nose initially smells of caramel and toffee and generalizable baking spices. This gives way to a light smell of maple. The palate is complex with hazelnut and toffee, vanilla and cardamum. The alcohol is well disguised, though the beer is a little more full bodied than I would personally like. Overall, a. outstanding beer, best enjoyed with friends. Or alone, because it's Wednesday, and fuck it. — 10 years ago
This a little treat for dessert! Dark chocolate, mocha and not too sweet. Nice malty flavor without being over the top. — 11 years ago
Yugawara-Onsen trip with Hiroto. Great dinner! Japanese classic beer. A little bit hoppy. — 8 years ago
Who says beer is the only option for baseball? A little SB and CWS make a great combo. @Brandon Sparks-Gillis such a refreshing wine but still pushing the envelope for depth and complexity - kudos! — 9 years ago
Wine from Colorado - Denver, to be precise - who'da thunk it? Big nose of boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry. Also hints of menthol, saddle leather, graham cracker, a touch of cola or root beer, and smoked meat. Although a dense purple in color - not surprising for a Petite Sirah - the palette comes across fairly light bodied. Dark berries, muddled and stewed a bit - the tannins definitely grip and hold, but not without a decent punch of acidity. Light earth and subtle oak are also of note. Not to knock the Colorado wine scene (which I know very little about), but this is surprisingly good. — 10 years ago
Continue my beer testing, this one is a little behind Stella Artois Lager. — 10 years ago
A little Friday beer. Really enjoyed this. Round mouthfeel, but not heavy. Malty with notes of tart orange, stone fruits, a little banana, hay and herbs. A touch of funk. Light sweetness, but with a touch of sour. — 8 years ago
Opening up some beer to create cellar space. Also minor celebration for work related stuff. Not what I expected but real good. Highly carbonated and the beer itself is actually a little light in power. But the bourbon is very well integrated. Lots of vanilla. It doesn't taste like a flabby Chardonnay. I wish there was a little more raisins in there as it's a good taste. Maybe waited a little long on this one? Good though — 9 years ago
Bought at a cool little combination vintage clothing shop/natural wine store in Tallinn. Super hip, I know; sue me. Natural Loire Valley (this is VdF but I'm pretty sure this producer is located in Touraine and I'm guessing the grapes are at least mostly sourced from there as well) rosé bubbles consisting of a blend of Grolleau and Cab Franc. Semi-sparkling/frizzante. Unfiltered, a quite small amount of sediment is visible floating in the bottle. Not sure whether or not this qualifies as a pet-nat since the production method isn't totally clear from bottle info but it fits the character of one regardless of production method. A bit funky but delightfully so and its not over the top at all. Slightly unripe wild raspberry and strawberry, some funky yeastiness that's almost lager-esque (also pours like a beer as well in terms of bubble texture/level of carbonation), a tiny bit of heavy cream, and wet granite and quartz stones, not unlike the stone of the beach of the island we just left (Hitis in the Finnish archipelago) where we spent a few days at my favorite place on earth, my family's shared summer cabin. Overall, somewhat like a sour beer in overall character, in a really cool way. Med. (+) acidity keeps it juicy and fresh. Super yummy. Great pizza wine. — 9 years ago
A little tart, but it feels like drinking fruit candy. Not even a taste hint that it's alcoholic. — 10 years ago
This stuff is awesome, if you want your root beer with pizza and a little alcohol, at 5.9%. Delicious! — 10 years ago
An Italian sour beer? Tell me more.... Oaky, a little malty, a nice level of sour (tangy without too much pucker). Really enjoyed this one. Thanks for the beer sale, whole foods! — 10 years ago
