Pink, cherry color. Aromatics include honey, strawberry, grapefruit. Tight delicate bubbles. Can carry weight of grilled meats, spice, fried foods like tempura. — 10 years ago
This is a new cuvée 17.5 grams residual aged 4 years on the lees the blend is 40 Chardonnay 30 Pinot meunière and 30 Pinot noir. Red cherry pie fruit pretty with fresh flowers a good bit of sweetness but finishes fresh with pretty floral notes. Finish 40+ excellent — 13 years ago
Got to pop some special bottles when my good friend Shawn came in to town!
I was ecstatic to open this and it ended up being one of the most spectacular champagnes I’ve had in recent memory, and possibly one of the most spectacular champagnes I’ve ever had. This single vineyard Blanc de noir from EO spent 6 years (!) on the less and was disgorged July 2018. Gorgeous golden straw color in the glass with minuscule bubbles. A totally dizzying aromatic display of ginger shavings, toffee, caramel dipped golden delicious apples, red berries, orange honey roasted cashews and some beautifully oxidized notes. Rich without being dense, a gorgeous palate profile of hazelnuts, lemon cream, brioche, chalky limestone and a finish that just doesn’t want to stop. This is a marriage of Krug & Taittinger Comtes. Stunning! — 6 years ago

12.9% ABV
82% Chardonnay, 18% Pinot Noir.
35% fermented in barrel.
Serving this next to another $120 bubbly (2006 Taittinger Comte) I have to judge with both my wallet and preference. Unfortunately that doesn’t fall in the favor of this Schramsberg which showed a bit of reduction notes (noticeably some lead pencil shavings).
No doubt a great US sparkler but not a competitor with great Champagne at this price point. — 8 years ago

Consumed 05/2020. It is 100% Pinot Noir. I did not know that was the grapes used to make this. Blanc de Noir translates to white wine from black grapes. Elegant, complex, round and toasty. It’s very refreshing. — 6 years ago
