This is exemplar of letting the fruit speak for itself. Tart cherry, blueberry, fresh pomegranate, a touch of dried herb, tiniest bit of smoke.

@Carl Fischer thank you for recommending - love it - decanted for 2 hours - had me at hello - color was hypnotizing - watching swirl in the glass was deep thought provoking "yeahs" thoughts
Taste is so inviting - big time jammy - dark black and blue everything - throw in the right spice and some chocolate mocha and the palette begins to speak - complex but simple - structured but balanced - it simply works
The nose is what is keeping me from dancing - just a little less than I would have hoped which tells me it will get better as it ages in the bottle
The finish was long and powerful - love it and will last 10 years but definitely can drink now with right decant
All smiles 😀😀 — 8 years ago

This is my first exposure to this wine, but definitely won't be the last.....ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!! Rich dark fruit, very lush and complex. From back label, "Along the western slopes of Napa Valley in Calistoga, lie 125 acres of premium vineyard. Dr. Kenefick, retired neurosurgeon has farmed these red rock filled soils for over three decades. Kenefick Ranch wines speak of the place, the man, and his vision. 100% estate grown and sustainably farmed. Aged 18 months in French barrique."
The nose was so wonderful, I had to taste before letting it breathe....it was marvelous. It continued to improve in complexity for three hours before it made the best compliment to braised lamb chops. — 10 years ago
Interesting to sip a Pouilly Fumé Cuvée Silice from one of the most trusted values in the region at such an age. While she's in the repose of her twilight years she's not merely a beauty of a bygone time but instead lively and lovely whose company rewards whoever has a chance afternoon with her. Who would ever credit Sauvignon Blanc even one of this crystalline emerald variety as a wine that might take an age in a cool cellar? 13 years! Even through the crazing crows' feet these eyes shine brightly and despite how cray paper skin drapes over the cheek bones of Sauvignon Blanc, this is still nimble and pulses with lives yet to live -not merely memories to regale its audience of how things once were, what she once was or could have been. Honeycomb, lemon curd, nettles wilting in grassy green olive oil, and then the lime leaves...so familiar and yet always exotic of distant shores and climates so far from this northern land of four resolute seasons. As to ratings: how can any of us quantify sensual pleasures really. This was a joy no matter how you cut it and yet given my surprise at Sauvignon Blanc at 13 years on still having so much to say I cannot speak highly enough. The Blanchets do it again! — 10 years ago
Not near as much mineral and earthiness as the 2004 I had the day before. This tasted much more California so to speak — 11 years ago
"Dolce naturale" = naturally sweet. I can't speak for other vintages, but the 2012 is, in fact, very balanced, but maybe not an easy one to understand. A traditional wine and a great one at that. — 11 years ago
Oh fuck yah mayhaps I’ll always overrate a gamay from a cru. Like god damn Fleurie. I dunno. All I know is I love a complex Gamay. So let’s suck it up:, the red/black/blue notes are in but be willing to gulp more. Let the licorice SPEAK! Love that licorice-y shit. Sup it up. — 8 years ago
Deep but bright orangey gold. Not much mousse to speak of, though that's likely a product of age (and less-than-desirable state store storage conditions). Likewise the somewhat weak bubbles. Biscuity quince and white stone fruit on the nose and palate. Still a firm backbone of acidity though, and that made it a great pair with "nouveau European" fare (trout almondine, fusilli carbonara). Would love to try it upon release. — 8 years ago

Great wine! Drinking it alone at the moment, so no food pairings to speak of and it's lovely — 8 years ago
This is the bottle that made me think I had a future in wine. It was a lonely bottle found in the basement that ended up in a flash sale to make room for restocking. I saw a nearly 10 year old French wine with a $9 sticker on it & thought "Either it's gross or they don't know what they have...either way, MINE!" When first poured I was disappointed - no nose to speak of & sediment, grr. I decanted it and took a shower. MOTHER OF GOD...it's amazing what a little bit of air can do. My partner, who isn't much for red wine couldn't believe how fragrant & smooth it was. We managed to keep from gulping it & enjoyed t across 2 dinners. I tried to find a case & the only one was auctioned through Christies! Ha! Sometimes you get lucky & this wine literally changed my life. — 10 years ago
Amazing depth and clarity of fruit from nose to palate. Smells range from coffee-tar to mushroom mulch and black cherry au jus. Lovely cherry blossom notes intermingle with rose water. The tannins are big initially, but harmonize rapidly in the glass. The drying sensation in no way detracts from the fruit which is bright plum and melange of cherries including bing finishing with aloft raspberry pillow. The balance is there, the stony, schisty minerality, and the oak is perfect, allowing the wine to speak in all its elegant Chiantese! Muscle for the money!! Feed this beauty something earthy, beefy or both! — 11 years ago
wine to decant two-three hours to fully enjoy its aromas. Strong notes of caramel, chocolate or tobacco. the tannins although present remain flexible. it is an organic wine from the south west of France that tells the truth. no oak barrels or other artifices, the fruit and the earth speak and give us to taste a robust wine without exaggeration that will be associated with a southern meal. Very good value for money. — 6 years ago
Star bright gold in the glass. No mousse to speak of; bubbles are small and persistent. Yeasty, honeyed apple nose. Palate of dark honey, baked apple, and toast. Acidity is still quite firm and mouth-watering, despite its age. Finish is medium yielding a bit of floral honey on top of the rest. Wonderful example of a wonderful vintage that’s still showing well. — 8 years ago
eye level gravel with my hands dirty, nine pm, fifteen years, give or take, we wanted to carry, hold eachother, push, scared of what's to come and the 'what to do', i once told you, whispers, humming bird, beak-heart, "i would love to fast forward", and now, cliche on cliche, i just want to speak to you and imagine the 'what to do', clean hands at nine pm — 9 years ago
Speak Piedmontese to me, baby. — 10 years ago
Pulled this out of the cellar as a three year throwback to our trip to Sonoma at March Break 2012. Color upon pouring was a deep ruby verging on purple. The cork had crystals developing. First nose and taste to come. It's breathing as we speak. The nose is quite soft, the fruits are balanced and the tannins are mellow. Finish is medium and quite pleasant. Per the winemaker, this vintage is a mix of Barbera, Zinfandel, Merlot and Syrah. Quite tasty! — 11 years ago

Ya know, really liked this stuff. So surprised! High acidity with pear and white flower. I hate to speak so casual, but just drink this. — 11 years ago

I really like this. I went into the wine shop in Belfort France, the guy didn't speak English but I told him I wanted something from the loire and this is what he gave me. Medium body with elegance and substance. — 6 years ago
