Hillier-Smith's wedding wine — 9 years ago
Young, but circumstances be as they may...
Had to open one, very deep concentrated dark black fruit. Tannins present & are not overwhelming in this big wine. As always, opened nicely on day 2! Save em' for 3-4 years if you can; gotta love Mike Smith's efforts with all Carter's wines! Cheers!? — 9 years ago

Wine tasting yesterday at Charles Smith's Jet City tasting room. Great space! The 2013 Beautiful is smooth with soft tannins. A real pleasure to drink and share with friends. All four of us enjoyed it. — 9 years ago
A relatively early incarnation of one of Justin Smith's wines, the 2005 Broken Stones is, in my view, a window into the great wines he's been making since he hit his stride starting with the 2006 vintage. Amazing nose of iodine, blackberry, and dark fruit notes combined with a subtle undercurrent of earth, this is a totally underrated wine that is ageing beautifully. In my view this wine is peaking, so if you have this you should drink it up. Terrific! — 10 years ago
Probably the most enjoyable Australian whisky I've had. Deeply honeyed, smooth and dark. Very very drinkable. — 10 years ago
Same Oakville Vineyard as Maybach Materium, Love Mike Smith's wines at Mark Carter's Winery! — 8 years ago
So, this was DELICIOUS. In all honesty, I know people have recommended a super long decant, but even at the hour mark, this wasn't nearly as tight and abrasive as I expected. You're definitely not popping and pouring this, but there is a nice elegance to this wine. Gorgeous nose...blackberry pie and vanilla. Can definitely get Mike Smith's style as it wasn't too light or overly heavy...the body and structure to this felt perfect. I got a ton of blackberries, cassis and a touch of clove. Thinking I should go back and get more of my allocation. @Greg Ballington @David L @Martin G Rivard @Ron R @Paul T , y'all were the ones who put this on the map for me and your scores pushed me to grabbing one. THANK YOU! — 8 years ago
Very light nose for cinnamon whiskey. Probably the best cinnamon whiskey/shine I've had. Not too sweet, very smooth and flavorful. Nice spice level, too. — 9 years ago
Thanks to @Kent Skidmore. Burgundy meets Cali. Balanced, nuanced and a testament to Mike Smith's wine making range. A beauty. — 10 years ago
Off-the-wall Blanc de Blancs face off.
South Africa vs New Mexico.
Graham Beck's 2011 Premier Cuvée comes from the best blocks in Robertson with half being fermented in barrel. Baked Granny Smith's, toasted almond, and a yeast component that resembles something from the origin of the méthode. Excellent finish that has depth and complexity, while still being bone dry. — 8 years ago
@Mike Smith's Syrahs with a couple years on them are just stellar. The hard part is keeping them tucked away that long! — 9 years ago
Sitting here with Danny & Lance marveling on how delicious this Zin is, and loving the fact that it's on special at $150 here at Smith's — 9 years ago
A wine from what I refer to as Justin Smith's "miracle year" (although with slightly less consequence than the development of special relativity), the 2007 Broken Stones is terrific. Probably still a bit young - the wine seems a little closed - it has all the hallmarks of being a great wine in a few years. If you have this, I'd recommend decanting for 1-2 hours. Enjoy! — 9 years ago
Never had this before. I will from now on..... — 10 years ago

After we had the arbor roberts' griffi's lair, the friendly somm at Bowery meat co recommended this red. Always great to have wine from Justin Smith's vineyard and this is made by someone who worked with him at Saxum. Rich, dense, plush, and the complexity and acidity I associate with this vineyard. — 8 years ago
