Also had at Swift & Sons in Chicago. The price delta between a younger CDP Beaucastel and the aged 93 Lazaret was minimal and very worth it. Like lavender rolled in clay and then dried over sage. So damn good. Big boozy sappy tannic tar when opened but 30 mins later it came out to play. — 7 years ago
The winner of the Downs Club Premium Red taste off from 41 masked Reds. Not my final choice but democracy prevailed by 4 votes to 3. This was in my final 3. A nice balance of sweet red fruits with some spice and hint of pepper. Balanced and smooth. Will cellar up to 10 years but overall a little too sweet for my palate. I’ve never evaluated vodka, but it smells like candy corn. And it’s delightful. Especially when tasted against a wheat vodka which just smells like rubbing alcohol. On its own this is a great sipping vodka with a beautiful rich soft mouthfeel — 8 years ago
This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago
