Christmas Day wine ππ
πΌπ·
Acquired this for two reasons: Flora Springs was my βa-haβ wine 10yrs ago which started my wine journey, and secondly because itβs my sister-in-lawβs birth year.
Enjoyed on Christmas Day (with said sister-in-law) and family (the family who introduced me to wine + Flora Springs). Kept the bottle standing for a few days. In the glass, there was bricking but the color was much more vibrant than expected. Aromatically, it showed mushroom and fig, but a good bit of muddled red and black berry fruit, some mint as well. Alive, elegant and bright on the palate with good tannin structure (held strong the two hours it was open). Small hint of tobacco at the finish, but the berry fruit stayed persistent keeping the flavors balanced. Undeniably older Napa (13%) and in great shape. β a year ago

64% CS, 28% ME, & 8% CF. No Malbec as listed in the description. Iβve had this for awhile. Didnβt like the first bottle so I avoided trying again. When I did try again I was surprised how much it improved with some age. β 5 years ago
Wow. Surprising. Restrained. In the zone now. β 6 years ago
Excellent stuff β 7 years ago
Heavy on the melon, plenty of a acidity and just a whisper of oak. β 8 years ago

A pre-dinner bottle while we do meal prep tonight.
Prior notes still apply:
Nose has lime zest, lime juice, green hay, wet granite/limestone pebbles, oxidized green apple peel, polyethylene tubing and tangerine peel.
Palate has Key lime flesh, cold tangerine slice, apricot skin, wet-pulverized limestone, lemongrass, tangerine zest, (minor) dried apricot and light honey on the medium finish, medium acid, great balance. β 5 years ago
The consensus among Biblical scholars is that Jesus turned water into pinot noir for his first miracle. This bottle confirms that, even though it doesnβt quite reach the quality served at Cana that fateful day. β 6 years ago
Flora springs. One of our favorite labels! Never disappointed. Smooth blend. Super easy drinker. Crowd pleaser β 8 years ago
Oak on the nose, herbal, nectarine skin. Taste is mineralic, dry, mellow. Strong acidity. β 9 years ago
Before I get into the notes, Flora Springs βTrilogyβ is one of those wines from my formative years in this wine journey. Subsequently, it holds a special place in my heart. You can probably imagine how excited I was to enjoy the 1994 a vintage I likely drank long ago, out of a double-magnum no less! Giddy.
Popped and poured from double-magnum into red Solo cups and enjoyed her the course of an hour. The 1994 βTrilogyβ pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated dark and red fruits: brambles, currants, plums, tobacco, old leather, dusty earth and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and the texture is silky. The large format has no doubt had an effect on this wineβs nearly evergreen properties but what a treat! Drink now regardless of format and enjoy this in its full maturity. β 9 months ago
dark red. nose: leather. prunes. overripe berries. lots of jam. mouth: full body. medium big tannins. more jam and leather on the mouth. drinks like a cab. medium follow through. love it β 5 years ago
Very silky with nice honeysuckle notes. Balanced. Some pineapple finish β 7 years ago
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon? Howell Mountain fruit? Look no further. β 8 years ago
A tannic monster. Figured a wine named "Wild Boar" is appropriate for Father's Day. This is so freaking dark in notes, but the color wouldn't allude to that. Color is red/purple and smells hot. Red licorice, peppercorn, anise on the nose. High tannins on the palate. Cedar, smoky, beef jerky notes to it. Spicy rhubarb too. If opening now, this needs at least a two hour decant. β 9 years ago

A superb Chardonnay! Aromas of Anise and Honeysuckle. Apple and Honey on the bud. Crisp and smooth with a long finish. Great with our Salmon tonight. Need to order more from Evening Springs as we were extremely impressed with their wines when we visited earlier this year. β 5 months ago
