Seven Stones Winery (USA)

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Ming L
9.4

The nose is immediate captivating with blueberry, cedar, pinecone, grilled herbs, dark chocolate, black pepper, light lavender, and hint of leather. It’s complex but does not overwhelm. The medium to full body is elegantly sculptured and self assured. Great balance. Sheer joy to drink this.

87/13 CS/CF aged 22 months in 100% new French oak barrel. Aaron Pott is the wine maker.

No fruit here! Just plenty of earth. Slightly skunky on the nose in the best way. 2 more in the cellar ... can’t wait to see where they go! — 4 years ago

Melville

Estate Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2021

Ruby red color with aromas of dark berry fruits, cedar and spicy forest floor notes. On the palate flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and crushed red cherries with notes of cedar and baking spice, lively acidity, fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and earthy notes. Drinking well! Pair this with a pork roast or Salmon with a balsamic glaze. — 7 months ago

Obsidian Ridge

Obsidian Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Enjoying this, though it’s lower tannin than you might find a cab from other CA regions. Blackberry and leather on the nose that moves toward dark chocolate as it opens up. A bit earthy but some dark fruit too. Smooth and velvety, probably not going to age better from here. — 9 months ago

The Eyrie Vineyards

Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2017

The Eyrie Vineyards, Pinot Gris, from the Dundee Hills of Oregon. Vintage 2017. ABV 12.5%.

Bright citrus and tart melon and cantaloupe notes with some salinity and wet stone influences. Very refreshing and youthful.

Easy to pair with food, we have paired it with roasted bok choy, aubergine, and brown jasmine rice. It goes nicely and doesn’t compete with the tamari and sesame flavors.

Clos Pepe Estate

Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2014

This is Clos Pepe’s Dark Side bottling, which they only made a few times. What an excellent PN, loaded with dark cherries, other dark fruits and some cola. There was a little left in the decanter about an hour or so after dinner and the fruit was gone as well as the long sweet finish. I had opened and decanted it about an hour before dinner and maybe that was too much time but got through dinner fine. — 8 months ago

Awesome! Cork appeared soaked through but didn’t seem to impact the wine. Rich flavors of butter, cream, and vanilla. Very white burg like. Great QPR! — 2 years ago

Antikythera Pinot Noir 2011

Stunning wine from an elegant vintage. 2011 consumed in March 2018.

Graceful and breathy. Such an amazing core of fruit considering the flimsy examples from many other wineries from this year. Just now starting to plateau with 5 to 7 more years to go!
