A great example of John Alban's Pandora wine, this is a grenache/syrah blend that is probably a little past peak but is still boasting impressive fruit for an 11+ year-old Rhone Ranger. Continued to evolve in the glass for a full hour, the wine has more elegance than some of the bigger single vineyard syrahs (or the estate grenache). Really good! — 10 years ago

The 2006 incarnation of Cris Cherry's flagship wine. One of the last vintages of the James Berry where he used a screwcap seal...and I might be a believer. Incredibly fresh for a 8+ year-old Rhone Ranger, this wine is terrific. Intense fruit, bright aromatics, with great balance. Easily has several more years of evolution left. Had this last night. Great offering from Justin Smith. This 2004 is really interesting in that it shows Justin finding his voice a few years before things really started taking off. Far better now than a few years ago when I first tried it, the wine is finally integrated and now shows beautiful balance. Still relatively youthful in my opinion - lots of primary fruit on the nose - but I think it's nearing its peak. Great mouthfeel and a lingering finish, this is a terrific example of a Rhone Ranger wine! — 10 years ago

Another terrific offering from Cris Cherry at Villa Creek, this SMG blend is drinking beautifully right now. Intense nose of blackberries, camphor, and a touch of iodine, it is remarkably smooth for such a young wine. Layers of flavor and wonderfully balanced through the mid-palate, this is a classic example of a Paso Rhone Ranger blend. Not sure about its longevity - as I implied this is far more integrated at 3 years than I would have expected - but it's drinking so well now I'm not sure why you would wait! — 10 years ago
