Lunch at home on Saturday with friends. Amazingly light in colour like a mid tawny cherry. Manages to be both sweet and savoury amongst the rancio at the same time. The spirit totally integrated. Needed to be drunk in its 51st year. — 6 years ago

Almost impenetrable, viscous; dry black berries, prunes, tree bark, menthol, uplifted and pleasantly volatile. Well educated but raw. Big, juicy, chewy, balanced. Raised in demijohns a-la rancio style. Still quite classic. — 9 years ago

2006 vintage. Strong rancio character, strong nuttiness and acidity. Tastes like a pecan and walnut baklava, made with quince and tangerine syrup. Lots of white flowers. So good: old, yet vigorous and lively. Palate: baked quince, red papaya, guava, red pear, roasted cherry, brown sugar, pecans, walnuts, salted caramel, rich toffee, fresh and candied white flowers, overripe peach, apricot and mango leather with white lokkum (Turkish delight). All of the tantalizing flavors of the Near East in liquid form. Finish that just won't quit. — 10 years ago

Bears some resemblance to the Sassicaia 2016, but perhaps noticeably less tart and a bit rougher in composition. I get a hint of rancio. Outperforms many more expensive Tuscan blends... great fun for the money. — 6 years ago

At the Downs Club Magnum Dinner and this was a great way to finish the evening with a Magnum of Warres VP. Just a medium ruby in colour. Typical burnt rancio notes. Resolved tannins and spirit - drinking beautifully at its peak. Drink or hold for a few more years. — 6 years ago
