First vintage of Abrie Beeslaar’s own wine. Since many years winemaker at Kanonkop he launched also his own wine in 2012. This is a completely a-typical Pinotage of which in 2012 only 4700 bottles were made. Lots of red fruit, cherries and berries, slight sweetness but very enjoyable and not too much. No earthiness at all but a modern and fresh in style. After some years in bottle this wine is performing greatly. Unique in style Abrie makes one of the best Pinotages which today are made in SA. — 6 years ago

Direct from SA. Delightful. Takes me back to the tasting rooms. Oaky, pepper, tobacco nose, deep blackcurrant, blackberries, peppery undertones and warmth, oaky in the mouth, lovely finish for something as light as a Pinotage. Really rate it. — 3 years ago

Very nice for the price. Dry red fruits forward with cherry and plum flavors. Earthy qualities with smoke and leather. Well balanced — 2 years ago
Fry, even, end tang — 4 years ago
The wildest tasting wine I’ve ever tried. Rank with hickory and horseflesh when opened, two hours later the barnyard clears and this lovely red-fruited, dusty-tannined, acid-driven wine emerges. Black cherry-colored. Wouldn’t have been able to tell you the age of it. Not at all oxidized. The bottle really tried to scare me away. — 4 years ago

Deep ruby with a smoky, meaty and minty nose. Robust but not overbearing tannins with mint, black fruit and a bit of cranberry and tar on the palate. Medium finish - very elegant for a pinotage, and at a fair price. — 6 years ago
Interesting and really delicious. Hints of spice and cherry — 6 years ago

Kanonkop knows Pinotage and they are experts at creating a Pinotage that can age for 20-30 years. You wouldn’t necessarily expect that for a grape that is a a crossing between a Pinot Noir and a Hermitage (an old name for Cinsault). This one was 13 years old and we still had to tame it down when it came out of the bottle. After about an hour of decanting the oak flavors of rich cigar and leather had well integrated with the earthy dark red, almost jammy, fruit. A full bodied, complex wine with lingering finish was created that disappeared way too fast. Follow us on www.spokenwines.com with an upcoming story about a winery that uses the Pinotage grape to make very unique rose that is out of this world. — 5 months ago
