Butterscotch, smoke and earth, and surprisingly a scintilla of mint. This wine from Mallorca was great with tapas @ Oloroso in Philadelphia. — 8 years ago

Anakota

Helena Dakota Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Enjoyed this tasty and teenaged Anakota Cab at Amis in Philadelphia with a lively view of the kitchen and delicious steak. Rich and peppery with a bite. Lots of fun chatting with the kitchen crew and the rest of the team at Amis while witnessing some glorious dessert prep (pictured: melted chocolate in ramekins)... Thank you @Cara Zimmerman for the great recommendation! — 8 years ago

Bernard Faurie

Hermitage Syrah 2005

Dark red/black cherry and blue fruit. Tarragon/liquorice floral character. Cracked black pepper. Whiff of Dr. Pepper. Smokey And smoked meatiness!! Ample but beautifully supple tannins. Complexity on the nose and palate. Medium length finish. Paired this with a bacon burger with cheese and caramelized onions. I want to live in my wine glass. Drank at Walnut Street Café in Philadelphia. — 8 years ago

Screaming Eagle

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

Super Bowl Sunday wine in honor of Philadelphia football! 2011 didn’t show as well as the football team (but a 2008 was up to the quality of the Eagles offense) — 8 years ago

Bodegas del Medievo

Tuerce Botas Crianza Rioja Graciano

Monster dark cherries, raspberries and black currents are everywhere. Balance from the mid-palate to finish is filled with a crispy/clean acidity, supple tannins that make your nipples hard, and lots of power finesse. The nose shows surprising elegance with signs of black tea, leather, cloves, dark chocolate, and a unique dust component that makes you feel like your driving down a dusty dirt road. Gracias, Graciano. You made my night complete while watching my Philadelphia Eagles. Cheers! — 10 years ago

Sequoia Grove

Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

First and foremost, having this with dinner from the best restaurant (Sola) in Philadelphia with the most thoughtful, generous, and passionate owner in the world!! Thank you Brian!!!

Thank you also to some of the most generous, caring, and supportive friends who gave us this bottle. Thanks Steve & Chris!!

Our twins are luckier than they know right now for having these people in their lives.

Okay, sorry, onto the wine. Deep, dark purple color in the glass. Big cherry and strawberry tones on the nose. Smells like Valentines Day. The flavor is disappointing. Maybe it needs more air or age, but rather tame and average. Great texture and easy to drink, but leaves one unsatisfied at the price level. Solid wine, with nice fruit, but isn't differentiated at all from other Napa Cabs yet alone a single vineyard of the quality of Stagecoach. Have 3 more bottles so we'll see how they progress.
