This is Tioga-Sequoia Brewery's Joaquin Murrieta Chili Beer. Where do I start? The terroir? (Fresno, where so many good things come from, grows the chiles, that make this beer a spicy, hot and cold phenomenon) The smog? The heat? The complicated geo-political space? The morlock valley we all are happy to disparage with one side of our mouth while stuffing it's stone fruits in the other? Sharp, hot chile flavor in the front, round, smokey, still hot chile flavor in the back. Lingers a long time on the exhale. A yeasty, wheaty nose doesn't give any of it's secrets away. I haven't seen this gracing the supermarket aisles any where else but Fresno, so if you find yourself there, grab some. 2017 — 8 years ago
Jan 2024: PnP, ready after 10 min in a big glass. Very nice Rioja, fruity, smooth and silky, on a feminine side — 2 years ago
Red fruit aromas, followed by black cherry, blackcurrant, strawberry and eucalyptus notes. Beautiful smooth tannins, excellent body and wonderful balance. Enjoy! — 4 years ago
Very unique. Like a clunky Lopez blanc — 5 years ago
Only made in exceptional years, this Rioja from the Murrieta vineyard is one of the best wines from this region and 1994 was truly an exceptional year. At 24 years old it has lasted very well retaining it’s fruit and structure despite some sub optimal storing conditions over the first few years. — 7 years ago
Worried this was corked but it's blown off. Amazingly youthful for a near 100 year old wine- probably reconditioned. Resolved dark wood and sour cherry. Very pretty and persistent. Hours later this has exploded. Soft and gorgeous. No issues. Pure joy. — 9 years ago
Rich and buttery. Not exactly my style today, though I bet a few more years would bring it closer to the old white riojas I’ve enjoyed in the past — 4 years ago
Good but not complex on the nose... nice acidity and an easy drinker.. would drink again @Nick Murrieta — 6 years ago
