I love this producer, but we didn’t let it decant enough and the food mix wasn’t ideal. Memo to self seafood app and larose are not a great pair. The spice tones came through more than most but as time went on you get the dark fruit and cedar and earth tones. — 7 years ago

This wine needed about 3 hours to release. Initially tight with uncomfortable medicinal nose which then totally dissipated. Drinking now next day and you get the age of fully integrated but not fading tannins. Nose has a delightful dark fruit and smokiness. Great fit of nose and taste, meaning - when tastes after smelling the experience is consistent and not jolting. I think the color purple in a subdued way. Very nice. Memo to self: decant and watch for sediment, and enjoy three hours later. — 8 years ago

Very tasty wine. Citrus on first opening with minerality and long, spicy, lingering palate. Less fruit as it opens but wonderful with our memo sole and red grouper. Great seafood wine. — 9 years ago

Active, perfect yellow amber pushing orange hard. Big bubbled beige-yellow head that dropped expectedly quick, with so much action. Petri-dish lacing with cytoplasm graffiti. Huge pineapple nose of fresh-cut ripe fruit! Grapefruit tattoo, but little else. General lemon creaminess; a memo from mandarin. Pineapple rum entry with caramel and vanilla, baked apple, brandy-pear, classy touch of black pepper, allspice, ginseng, soft ginger slices, dried orange peel, anise, and lime. Heady and thick, cut, wiry, and sinewy, but overall, a calculated, choreographed, disciplined display of restrained power, lithe and evocative, with a smooth finish.

I thought the 2010 Bartolo was great but maybe this was even better- wow. I wasn’t expecting this to be so accessible. It was rich and chewy- not in a Cali cab manner- just lingered in the mid palate. Add in some dark fruit, mineral, licorice all woven together beautifully. The wine was so light. Really impressed with these wines. Memo to me later- go buy some!! — 7 years ago

Impressive for its understated nose of cassis and espresso. On the palete, it has a lovely mouthfeel, which is plush and layered. Sweet tannins present, complemented with luscious black fruits. Those convicts got the memo - this is excellent! $23 of exceptional value. Beat that!!! — 8 years ago

Oh my. Perfect. Great wine at the right time. Fruit is there but dark and balanced with the earthy foundation. Lasts forever. Bouquet is magnificent. A little sweeter than the taste, which also balances well. Just a magnificent wine. Memo to self: wait at least 15 years for a good Syrah. 19 yrs here is perfect! — 4 years ago
