Mark and I agreed to meet up at Classic this afternoon for some quick wine drinking, but it eventually turned in to a small wine gathering! Wine is great, but sharing it with others is so enjoyable.
Funny thing about this wine is we have no idea who opened it. Didn't necessarily fit the theme of what we were drinking, but turning down free wine isn't in my blood! Very simple. Not complex at all. Reminded me of Welch's grape juice, BUT, that was due to the Bordeaux's we were drinking and after some time, this became a decent, quaffable drinker. Lots of dark fruits and a ridiculous amount of Oak. — 7 years ago
Forgot to add this in on the 4th. The Release Party was a lot of fun and we were lucky enough to meet @Shay Aldriedge in person! Also a solid wine and loved the single vineyards we got to try.
Dark purplish ruby red. Tons of baking spices on the nose with black and dark red fruits. Heavy tannins (8/10) and similar notes on the palate. Full bodied and long finish. Drink till 2030. — 7 years ago

With Hillstone recently deciding to A). add a $15 corkage fee to their menu and B). take the Smith-Madrone Spring Mountain Cab Sauv. off their wine list (crime of the century in my opinion!), I wondered if there were any good wine finds left on their menu. I was pleased to find this one and enjoyed it thoroughly with my French Dip! Even better was the cute guy seen sitting across the bar from me! I would have gladly shared! Now, just need to curb my addiction to their creamy horseradish and all will be right in the world-well sorta.... — 7 years ago
A solid wonderful cab. Lots of berry flavors. Excellent aroma. 2009 was excellent year. It will meet all expectations. — 7 years ago
Was lucky enough to share this bottle with only its owner over the course of a long dinner. It evolved beautifully in the decanter, taking about an hour to round out its tannins and another 90 minutes or so until a layer of red fruit emerged (along with blood, graphite and pepper). Hope we meet again! — 7 years ago
Pretty good but did not meet expectations. The entry and midpalate were really good but the abrupt ending was sub-par, especially at this price point. — 8 years ago
Had the chance to meet the entire family while on a trip to Italy, was treated like a king. This wine in no different then my treatment then! Slight brick color in the glass. Cinnamon, nutmeg with dashes of baking spice. Smooth easy finish. Super Bordeaux blend! — 8 years ago
Ripe raspberry, cherry and strawberry. Lots of spice on the nose with a little floral flourish. Ripe red fruits on the palate meet with that delicious spice again. I loved it, my colleague hated it. Haha — 8 years ago
I must be something right, the outlaws gave me this bottle and it's a superstar... It is super with a meal and just for a glass.. It's flavours are berryesque with the taste dancing across the tongue.. Bacchus when we meet I will open this first.... Let my journey for the perfect vault continue — 9 years ago
Cute cork. ⛺️ — 9 years ago
My long lost friend...Diablo, meet grass-fed steak...match made in heaven.
Light in color but big ripe meaty red fruit, laser acidity & hint of funk. This wine makes me happy! — 10 years ago
Cute wine label is cute. — 11 years ago
Small group for this month's WTF wine meet up, so why not hit up Fort Worth's best BYOB?
As soon as I gave this a whiff, I knew a fair bit of cab franc was incorporated. No green pepper, though. Leather, raspberries, kirsch, and a touch of cedar on the nose. At a point in its life where it's mimicking Bordeaux at best it can. The body and finish have very little tannic grip. Dirty cherries, and fig leaves. Thanks for bringing Bill! — 7 years ago
Outstanding wine. Berries and stone. Noticable overtones of smoked meet serve as an interesting contrast to the berries. Notes of roasted root vegetables and chives mid-palate. — 7 years ago
I finally had the pleasure to try this new vintage release of CJ Melka Cabernet Sauvignon from the legendary Philipe Melka. It was yet another fantastic vintage, but from trying the past 3, it is easily going down as my favorite. This juice, as always, had a very enticing nose. It was rich, and full of notes of dried tobacco leaf, Spanish cedar, mocha, gravel dust, lavender, red fruits, and a faint hint of green bell pepper, which only livens the olfactory senses in a good way. In the glass, its youthfulness is shown in a dark royal purple hue with a lavender hued rim, and very long legs due to its 15.5% ABV. Upon entry into the pallet is an explosion of flavor, coating the mouth with lush blackberry and ripe cherry notes, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, and a very gripping finish, leaving a mocha after taste. The wine had ample tannin structure, and good Oaky nuances that with its medium plus acidity all came together make a truly supurb wine. Great job Monsieur Melka! Can't wait to be in Napa in August and hopefully meet you! #melkawines
Cheers!

Great to meet Ellen Cavalli co-owner of Tilted Shed today and hear about their journey into cider making. Loved this cider! — 9 years ago
Had a chance to meet Collioure grandmaster Bruno Duchêne last Friday @ Verre Volé à Tokyo | He owns 4 ha on schist soil and makes a very impressive grenache-based line up | 2008 La Pascole (90% grenache, 10% carignan) was fresh as a daisy! #glou — 10 years ago
