All over the map and that’s what made it stand out. Earthy, leather, white pepper, cola, while also heavy on red fruit. Bigger high alcohol pinot yet smooth. Dry, lingering finish. — 7 years ago
Not a Pinot Noir for the newbie. More Burgundy, less California with a bouquet of tarragon, cedar, mint, redwood, black cherries, blood orange peel, green olive, sea spray, and smoked game meats. Intense, complex and a real joy for a lover of earthy, terroir-driven Pinots with a character. — 8 years ago

With matt at ragazza. We both liked it, darker fruit Nebbiolo but easy drinking without being jammy — 9 years ago
Beautiful color, smooth, sweet but not too much so, flavorful. — 9 years ago
This was a real treat. Concentration and Intensity off the charts. Liquid raisins, toffee chocolate and fruit cake with the viscosity and consistency of engine oil. Leading Australian wine scribe James Halliday has never given 💯 points to a table wine but he gave 💯 to this fortified, as did James Suckling 💯 and Huon Hooke 98 points. The base vintages in this can go back to 100 years ( the average base sits between 20 and 40 years). Rutherglen Muscat is one of Australia’s gifts to the vinous world. — 6 years ago
14’ Arista UV-EL Diablo Vineyard Chardonnay. Old world!?! Burgundian style!?! Needs another year or more!!
Rich & layered. White flowers, white peach, fig, minerality. Light on its feet. Very well-made Chardonnay.
Matt Courtney winemaker, somebody I enjoy following. Matt started up Ferren wines a few years back. EDIT- Your worst fears... last glass was better then the first. WAIT until 2020/21.
He also had an 8/10 year apprenticeship with Helen Turley at Marcassin. — 7 years ago
Big and rich, but strangely light on the palette. Lovely. — 8 years ago
The 2017 ‘Foothills Reserve’ Syrah is a simply magical new wine by Matt Reynvaan. The nose takes on highly hedonistic tones, showing beautiful range from orange zest to Umami to bacon fat and roasted dates with fresh sage that all collide in the glass. Silky smooth on the mid-palate the wine unveils a remarkable depth and salinity. The elegance here is extraordinary with a sensational mouthfeel. Hoisin sauce, blood orange, bulls blood and Umami with wild blackberry cobbler flavors all combine marvelously in the glass. The exceedingly long finish lingers long on the palate. Smooth and silky. Great flavor. Really enjoyed this wine. With Matt and Hannah!! — 8 years ago
Inky purple in the glass with aromas of blueberry, plum, savory bacon fat, black licorice, and spices. 3% Viognier adds some floral lift. Full bodied and juicy on the palate with nice structure. Made by Matt Dees and barrel aged in French oak which is only 30% new. Although not as powerful as the ‘13, it shows a bit more finesse. 14.5% alcohol. $60. — 8 years ago
Terrific wine from Matt Trevisan, the 2009 Sticks and Stones is grenache-driven with a lot of mourvedre and a touch of syrah. Very elegant on the palate - probably is peaking now so I wouldn't recommend holding onto it much longer - but a great example of a mid-level Rhone-style blend from Paso. — 8 years ago

A much bigger and bolder Claret from winemaker Matt Loso. Notes of stewed plum, chicory and currant jam. Full bodied and complex on the palate, mild to medium tannin with a velvet finish. Great addition to my Christmas table paired with coffee rubbed tri tip steaks. — 6 years ago
