The latest release of the Grand Siècle from Laurent Perrier is a truly spectacular Champagne. Disgorged in October 2017 the wine is a blend of the top wines made from 2002, 2004 and 2006. The bouquet is simply intoxicating with amazing range, from honeydew lemon to citrus rind, brioche and Japanese pear. On the palate, this shows an excellent combination of viscosity and tension. Apricot, Challah bread, marzipan and kumquat zest flavors all marvelously combine togehter. While this is a marvelous Champagne that is built to age, it is simply impossible to resist right now. This sure was tasty. Still needs time for the oak to properly integrate but, this was marvelous. All sorts of red and black, ripe fruits combined with vainilla. Solid structure and smooth texture. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. — 7 years ago
Good fill, sound cork. Round and full, fruit still there, only drying out a little bit. Tastes a bit ripe, as befits the very hot year, but still a marvelous, classy wine. Janet’s birthday today! — 7 years ago
This is the most elegant Chave that I have tasted. It has lovely notes of plum and cassis with accents of white pepper, road tar, flowers and licorice. The palate is bright with supple tannins and nicely judge acidity. Great length and class on the finish. It is a marvelous wine from an extremely wet, cold vintage. — 8 years ago
The 2015 Kapcsandy ‘Grand Vin’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a stunning wine by this storied estate. This wine was aged in 88% new French oak prior to bottling and utilizes a touch of Hungarian oak. The nose imparts creme de cassis, wild blackberry and chocolate aromas. The mouthfeel is simply marvelous and coats the mid-palate. Wild blackberry pie, huckleberry compote, black tea and anise flavors all beautifully combine in the glass. The bright acidity and salinity of the wine impresses as well. A stunner, this beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon will have an exceedingly long life in the cellar. Drink 2019-2040- 97 — 6 years ago
Taken from what was generally a tough vintage in the Northern Rhone, the 1997 ‘La Chapelle’ Hermitage is a striking rendition at more than twenty years of age. Bulls blood, iodine, red cherry puree and crushed mint flavors provide some serious refinement. Silky throughout, this will continue to evolve over the next five to ten years — but is marvelous right now. Drink 2019-2025- 93 — 6 years ago

I absolutely adore the 1998 Dom Pérignon at this stage in development, as this was a marvelous surprise to see how balanced and seductive this wine is now. Showing a slightly lower viscosity than the ’96, the 1998 Dom Pérignon greets you with a wonderfully nutty and musty bouquet, followed by great tension and linear progression on the mid-palate. The wonderful sense of freshness complements the nutty, wild mushroom, peat moss and orchard fruit flavors. This has a wonderful saline streak that runs through the exceedingly long finish. While marvelous now, this has at least fifteen years left. Drink 2019-2035- 97
