The 2021 Alliance has everything, it is not as well balanced as the 2020 but close. — 3 years ago

En France Pouilly-Fuisse Chardonnay 2011

Spring 2021. 10 years is a great age for the denser Maconnais wines - enough time to develop richness and complexity but not so much as to fade all the fruit. — 4 years ago

La Verchere Vieilles Vignes Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2015

Beautifully aging pouilly fuisse. This pale yellow gold with incredible aromas of crème brûle, ripe lemon and tarte tatin. Incredible with a cheese plate. — 6 years ago

Viña Cobos

Bramare Rebon Vineyard Malbec 2013

The wines are the result of a shared passion of three winemakers: Paul Hobbs & Argentine parters Andrea Marchiori & Luis Barraud. Dark Ruby with aromas of berry fruits and complex spice. On the palate concentrated flavors of cherry and raspberry with toasty notes and pepper spice. Good balance fine tannins, lingering ending with fruit and sweet herb character. Nice, small production. — 7 years ago

Clean nose, light green apple, oak but not heavy. Creamy on the palate, some minerality. Plan to finish this bottle tomorrow, based on other reviewers I should expect enhancement.

Thanks
@Lyle Fass but I'm going to stick with the La Verchère VV, and cellar them. This was an interesting comparison to the Grgich Chardonnay (2012) tonight, more noticeable oak on this bottle, albeit not distracting.

Day Two: Still creamy oak, but the minerality and acid seem to have really picked up.

All fleshy blueberry. Seems classically high pH to me and yet has a surprisingly fresh finish. Paired with cast iron sirloins and chimichurri. — 4 years ago

Les Chataigniers Vieilles Vignes Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2019

Spring / summer 2021. More balanced than the warm 2018, but needs a little time for the elements to come together a bit. — 4 years ago

Perdriel Malbec 2014

Black violet; dense. Peppery raisin and blackberry scented, it exhibits hints of licorice black olive tapenade, portobello, and grilled rosemary and baked dark rye.
Dried blackberry, dried cranberry, raisin-black currant with intense extraction. Rich and powerful at this price point. The pepper re-emerges, and black plum, fine graphite, black olive and oregano, thyme, and lovely tannins that flow texturally throughout. Intense, with a long long finish.

Les Pierres Polies Mâcon-Chaintré Chardonnay

Fresh Chardonnay from the village of Chaintré, southwest of Mâcon. Vines are about 30 years old and rooted in clay and silex soils. Fresh, mineral, citrus, hints of lemon custard. Good acidity, subtly saline. Refreshing, easy to drink — 4 years ago

La Verchère Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2005

Nothing better than a well aged Chardonnay and fatty, cold water fish. This bottle is our go to pairing for grilled steelhead trout.

Nose is evolving since my prior post, oxidized green apple peel and cold caramel.

Palate is lightly sweet lemon curd/custard, baked red apple, cooked lemon, warm granite dust and a zing of acidity on the close.

Our feline house managers pestered for comfortable portions on the trout, they are good boys and girls, generally, so we endulge.

Great night listening to Hugh Masekela and Mongo Santamaria on the HiFi, everything complimented!

One bottle left, then we move along to the next vintage.

Viña Cobos

Felino Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

I’ve always enjoyed the wines of Viña Cobos, which is Paul Hobbs Argentina venture and partnership with Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud. Their entry level offerings are done under the Felino label and are sourced from selected vineyards in Valle de Uco and Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza. Purple flowers and incense hover around the core of blackberry, licorice, ganache, and vanilla. This has crowdpleaser written all over it. Shockingly good for the price. — 8 years ago
