Leacocks Malmsey “Solera” Madeira 1863: bright and beautiful for a wine of 152 years (!); delicate body, with surprisingly flavorful notes of toffee and almonds; taste was only semi-sweet, not fully so; crisp, salty acidity; wonderfully enduring finish, like a Kraft Caramel sprung from a time machine — 8 years ago
Very beautiful aroma here with tons of tawny like nuttiness coming through, flowerlike sweetness and perhaps a bit of loamy earth. On the palate, the wine goes nuts - literally - with a spicy (almost like chili peppers) nutty mix, finishing with sweetness and heat. Fun wine. — 9 years ago

Medium brown; medium plus intensity aromas of apricot, dates, figs, cinnamon, cloves, bay, toast, smoke, chocolate, coffee; st, high acid, high alcohol, full body, medium plus intensity flavors of tangy fruit, figs, fig cookie, apricot, raisins, caramel apple, molasses, bay, laurel, wet leaves, tobacco, vanilla, long finish; very good — 6 years ago
Rich, complex drinking. — 6 years ago
Nutty roasted nose. 19% zippy acidity, nice long finish. Fucking adult koolaid.

Light, almost refreshingly, delicious and nutty. — 7 years ago
Fuck my face with flavor why don't you — 8 years ago
The oldest liquid I’ve ever tasted. It is actually their Malmsey. — 6 years ago
Tasted next to the 12 year malmsey. Great display/contrast of acidity expression on aged Madeira. — 7 years ago
How times change. 15 years ago I'd not have given 5 year tinta negra blends a second glance. This does what it says on the bottle--it is full and rich. Crème brûlée, butterscotch, almonds, vanilla, and healthy acidity. Only lacking that final layer of complexity that great aged madeira can contain. Stunning QPR for madeira. — 7 years ago

Now this is more like it. Powerful malmsey with a grip and complexity that recall the finest madeiras we’ve tasted. Rim gradation with a hint of green around the edge. Burnt sugar, citrus rind, caramel. The wine blossoms on the palate, oxidative notes show themselves before the rapier of acid drives home the finish, like a toreador’s sword. Fabulous. — 4 years ago
