Toscana Merlot 2014

Bold yet surprisingly restrained. It offers dark cherry and plum with just a whisper of tobacco, all wrapped in a subtle, earthy elegance. Some may dismiss this particular vintage, I happen to enjoy it more than most. — 9 months ago

Another Trader Joe’s gem that made me think I was drinking something far more expensive. Enjoyed with a salad and spaghetti. Spicy and fruity. Excellent wine — 5 years ago

It is very typical of a #supertuscan wine = deep ruby color, medium(+) aromas and flavours of black cherry, red and black plum and hints of cassis and mint with toasty undertones. The tannins need a little polishing. I believe it needs to age. — 5 years ago

Le Macchiole

Messorio Toscana Merlot 2011

Very New World style. By the nose and palate, this one allost seemed to resemble a Malbec. I believe this is 100% Merlot. Decadent black and purple youthful fruit and a hint of chocolate on the nose. Entry is gritty, black and purple fruit with cocoa nibs and herbal character. Herbs carry to the middle where a baking spice note shows, but again this wind seems to have more of a dark purple and tarry black fruit background. Very weighted finish. Thick and inky. I think this could benefit from a few more years of bottle aging but drinking well now! — 7 years ago

In agreement with Mark here...very new world in style. All merlot. Wouldn’t have guessed it was Italian at all. Rich and ripe. Ripe blackberry, blueberry and dark cocoa dusted dates on the nose and a similar profile on the palate...acidity and tannins are fairly high, keeping this wine in its place before getting too high octane. One of the better Italian wines I’ve had.

Ca' Marcanda Magari Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2017

Gaja Ca’Marcanda Magari 2017: Smooth. Balanced. Inviting. Medium tannins. Medium acidity. Full flavors. Blackberry. Tobacco. Spice. Earth. Overall, a rich (& lovely) Super Tuscan wine consisting of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Petit Verdot. Drinking fantastic right now but if given the chance, I would hold. Great day to all! Cheers🍷 — 4 years ago

This Sangiovese was complex yet explosive and compact - did not like it at first as needed air but got better and opened up as it still a baby - rest them for five years and drink over the next 40 years - not a fruit bomb like I thought but a dancer of tastes and smells - WE gave it 96 and I can see why — 6 years ago

I Piaggioni Vitigno Sangiovese Toscana IGT Sangiovese 2016

Entry level Sangiovese from a tried and true Brunello estate. Certainly not lacking in structure with black cherries, berries, firm acid, and hearty tannic grip. Pair this with meat lover’s pizza or bolognese. — 7 years ago

Tenuta Caparzo

Toscana Sangiovese 2015

Gotta quote the Beatles on this one, “strawberry fields forever!” I don’t know how there is this much wine here for $12.00. Not shy whatsoever on the nose, palate, and finish. Smart integration of oak; it accentuates the fruit by adding nuances of clove, clay pot, and leather. So pretty as well. Potpourri and a pepper medley kick up the florals. Classic juicy tomato on the finish, but those creamy strawberry notes don’t seem to give up. Bravo 👏 — 7 years ago
