Very New World style. By the nose and palate, this one allost seemed to resemble a Malbec. I believe this is 100% Merlot. Decadent black and purple youthful fruit and a hint of chocolate on the nose. Entry is gritty, black and purple fruit with cocoa nibs and herbal character. Herbs carry to the middle where a baking spice note shows, but again this wind seems to have more of a dark purple and tarry black fruit background. Very weighted finish. Thick and inky. I think this could benefit from a few more years of bottle aging but drinking well now! — 7 years ago

Whether I prefer this or Rancia depends on which one I have open at the time. Either confirms that Sangiovese doesn’t need to come from Montalcino to make truly profound, voluptuous wines. — 8 years ago

It is very typical of a #supertuscan wine = deep ruby color, medium(+) aromas and flavours of black cherry, red and black plum and hints of cassis and mint with toasty undertones. The tannins need a little polishing. I believe it needs to age. — 6 years ago
Entry level Sangiovese from a tried and true Brunello estate. Certainly not lacking in structure with black cherries, berries, firm acid, and hearty tannic grip. Pair this with meat lover’s pizza or bolognese. — 7 years ago
Gotta quote the Beatles on this one, “strawberry fields forever!” I don’t know how there is this much wine here for $12.00. Not shy whatsoever on the nose, palate, and finish. Smart integration of oak; it accentuates the fruit by adding nuances of clove, clay pot, and leather. So pretty as well. Potpourri and a pepper medley kick up the florals. Classic juicy tomato on the finish, but those creamy strawberry notes don’t seem to give up. Bravo 👏 — 8 years ago

After decanting for an hour, it display a very soft fresh berry aromas with hint of vanilla. "Drinking it is like eating berries in the woods. " described by <Vino Italiano> when talking about Sangiovese. I can't believe this is a 16 years old bottle. Cepparello is the first 100% Sangiovese wine in Chianti. It adopted the "Super Tuscan" philosophy but rooted the wine in Tuscany deeply. Definitely gonna clear out the stock from Hedonism. — 13 years ago

Great wine indeed. Nose is complex, camphor, dry amarena cherry, some flint, no oxidation not fading on this bottle yet.
On the palate, Fruit is gone for this bottle, wine is dominated by its tannic structure that is on the dry side, almost austere. I was expecting a fleshier, mellower tannin. Dry herbs, dry raisins, cherry again.
Long finish, good acidity that’s keeps the wine alive and well going.
Mitigate the intensity with proteins and juice/sauce.
Osso bucco with prunes will work. We did Fiorentina and it was ok. The crust and smokiness did not help, over exhibiting the dryness of tannins. — 8 years ago

This was just stupid haha I quit life for a couple minutes this day. Just when Merlot started disappointing. The Italians said pause, rolled up their sleeves and punched me right in the kisser. Easily one of, if not THEE best Tuscan red I've ever had. Additionally, the best 100% Merlot I've ever had. This wine makes me crazy. I quit. — 10 years ago
A great bottle; quite dark but by no means opaque super-tuscan; served quite cold but really opened up in the glass, shedding the light notes of petrol to reveal a startlingly brilliant fresh blackcurrent skins with notes of tobacco, freshly turned soil, and hints of thyme and stocks. Nicely tannic with surprisingly but beautifully present acidity. Stunning with fresh pasta and goats cheese! Tempted to get a case so I can see how it develops over the next ten years. Could go either way into secondary; full marks and top of the class or the tired high-school drop-out in a second rate early John Travolta movie ... — 10 years ago
