Even more fantastic than the previous bottle of 2010 I enjoyed a year ago. Decanted and enjoyed over 7 hours. This was good from first pour but became great and then magnificent over the next 3.5 and 7 hours. It was still full of verve on the last sip! Early only it was more dark fruit but over time the wines softened and became a bit sweeter and rounder. Tremendous length and complexity. — a month ago

I think this is peaking. From a marginal year but really nice. Lots of cedar and a little roasted peanut note augmenting some nice, mellow cassis fruit on the nose. A big whack of intense flavors on initial entry, with tannins still there but softening. On the palate flavors of blueberry, cherry and blackberry with espresso, tobacco and toasty oak notes. Long rich finish on soft juicy tannins, drinking well and still has room to age. 2009 vintage ( half bottle). Looks more evolved than the 2010 tasted alongside. But it is also much more complex. Intense perfume showing an abundance of noble rot, with roasted nuts, pineapple, honey, and a hint of thyme. Concentrated and layered, perfectly balanced and very long. 40 year old vines. Blend of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. 13.5% abv. Feels so young for a 2016! Red berries, spice, raisin and fresh greens on the nose. Delicate palate, underripe raspberry and red currant, with a refined long herbal finish and bitter notes. Great soft, tingly tannins. Excellent Bordeaux, I have to say. St Julien style. Expensive but worth it. This Bordeaux is just right now. Paradigmatic Pauillac with deep brooding flavor and bitter finish. Tannins are perfectly smooth. Perfect with steak or on its own while listening to music while contemplating the meaning of life.
