— 7 years ago
From the family that owns the Chateau de Beaucastel, this is a solid Rhone blend of Grenache and Syrah. 7 years old with so much fruit, ripe tannins and hints of black pepper. Not much length. Good one for an average Tuesday night! — 8 years ago
Nothing like the mourvedre dominated Beaucastel or the monastrells from Jumilla. Nice nose. Heavy and leathery, even after a decade. I'm very interested to see what this is like tomorrow or the next day. [Update: markedly better after an overnight in the decanter.] — 9 years ago
Dark rich wines - Vieux Telegraphe edged out the Beaucastel tonight — 9 years ago
2009. This is traditional southern rhone at its best. If you want a wine to reflect the area, this is it. Get any Berthet Rayne you can, whatever the year. Next to Beaucastel, and way cheaper. The CdP won't last as long, but it is great stuff if you like traditional CdP. And the CdR is incredible for the price. — 10 years ago
Almost the anniversary of my first Delectable entry when sitting outdoors at a wonderful restaurant in Gigondas under a tree drinking the 2008 vintage of this wine with all the family. This is 70% Grenache with the rest made up of Cinsault Syrah and Mourvèdre. The further south the higher usage of Mouvedre until Bandol right on the Mediterranean coast where it can be 90 to 100 % because of its higher tolerance to hot conditions. Chateau de Beaucastel where I visited a year ago uses all 13 permitted varieties with the highest being Mourvèdre at 30 %. They have increased this % over the years because of warmer conditions at vintage lessening the Grenache % so alcohol levels do not get out of control. Love this very savoury style of wine. 18. — 10 years ago
Wow. Pulled this off our shelf while enjoying 2011 Ch de Beaucastel and after an hour of enjoying both, we are so impressed with Seam Mourvèdre. Not that these are the same wines in any way, but we just loved the purity of fruit, the mouthfeel and overall enjoyment we get from the Seam wine. Yay, Paul et al. — 11 years ago
Even though it is a "celebrity wine". Beaucastel has done a great job with this rosé. This one on the banks of the Rhone in Condrieu. — 12 years ago
Exceptional. Maybe worth the price. Stands out even in the great vintage. Distinctive taste and character. Maybe the Mourvèdre.

Reminds me of beaucastel, dark ripe red and black fruit and dusty tannins, flowers and oak, really beautiful — 8 years ago
My goodness! Who cares about Beaucastel? I have never been disappointed by Vieux Telegraphé with some reasonable number of years on it. Really, the Brett under control here adds a bit of rusticity, but not at exaggerated levels. Wow! 30 mins after opening and the dominant blood and game qualities pull back the curtain on a beautiful aroma of faded tea rose. Not too much alcohol for a CndP. This is just terrific with charcoal grilled Lamb chops and some green onions. — 9 years ago
18+ 2009. Who could expect this from Clairette? Rich, complex, wonderful mouthfeel, very long. Ranks with Beaucastel Blanc vv and other top White Rhones. — 9 years ago
Really nice, chewy, plenty of acid and soft tannins. Not Beaucastel but it was also 1/4 the price. — 10 years ago
Much fresher and livelier than the Blanc from Beaucastel. Quite appley, mineral and floral. Lovely — 10 years ago
Good. Probably not fair that I had Beaucastel right before this one. — 10 years ago
Had this with '98 Beaucastel & '98 Vieux Telegraphe. This was my favorite of the three. — 10 years ago
Might have liked this more that '98 Beaucastel the night before. Is that ok? — 11 years ago
My favorite chateauneuf-du pape. Nice change from those huge cabs. Need another bottle — 6 years ago
One of the great values in the wine world. Dark fruit, acid, spice. Layers of flavor, fantastic with food. Delicious. — 9 years ago
Really has held up quite well. You can see the southern Rhone inspiration but the breadth in the mid palate belies it's California qualities. Great example of age worthy CA red. — 10 years ago
Rich, roasted fruit, but nicely balanced, not as deep or complex as the great 1989 Beaucastel from last week, but quite good!! — 10 years ago
excellent wine by producers of beaucastel — 11 years ago
Amazing experience in Paris. Expensive on the market, but cheap. — 12 years ago
Jocholla
Beautiful minerality, drinks like a CDP Blanc. — 6 years ago
