Savant Paso Robles Syrah Blend 2050

Deep ruby wine with a nice smooth finish. Paired well with our pork tenderloin and salad. Interesting Syrah can blend. — 3 years ago

Irie Paso Robles Zinfandel 2013

Not nearly the syrupy fruit bomb you might expect from a zin. The fruit played second fiddle to a delightful earthy component, all delivered in a super smooth package. I thought it would pair well with a steak, but it ended up being better as a sipping wine after dinner. — 7 years ago

Clos Rousseau Santenay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Color of beautiful purple with some ruby color in it, nice legs. Nose is nice with sweet dried strawberry ice cream, ripe berries, aldehyde, some refined spice, some fermented cabbage, strength of alcohol, and Coca-Cola. Taste is smooth and follows the nose, no tannins and a bit zesty, sweet berries with black pepper. Aftertaste shows some more Coca-Cola taste and clean. Light yet refreshing and decent flavors. — 4 years ago

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2017

Cherry & baking spice. A little short on the finish, but a great deal at $20. Was absolutely singing with miso-glazed pork chops. — 6 years ago

Found this in the odd lots bin at Kadota's Liquor near my old high school in Hilo, Hawaii a few days ago. Freaking delicious! Earthy, cherries, but very high toned for a SB Pinot of this era. Wish I still had some of this in my cellar. Justin was killing it from Day 1. — 7 years ago

Trilateral Syrah Blend 2016

Nice, tastes a little overly polished. Big, 15% ABV, but somewhat flimsy mid-plate. Pronounced acidity and tannins. — 6 years ago

Saxum Vineyards

Terry Hoage Vineyard Syrah Blend 2010

Another winner by Justin Smith at Saxum, the 2010 Terry Hoage is a nearly equal mix of syrah, grenache, and mourvedre (with a slight dominance of syrah - 46/33/21). The tannins are sweet and completely resolved, so the palate beautifully follows up the sweet blackberries on the nose with a seamless mouthfeel, lots of glycerin, and a balanced, lingering finish. Cannot imagine this wine drinking any better than it is right now. — 7 years ago
