Jealous Bitch

François Mercier

Bonne Neige Brouilly Gamay 2016

Floral tension, ripe strawberries, and volcanic minerality combine to make a feminine personality. Given its birth in Brouilly, it displays Mediterranean qualities of jammy fruit and iron. Acid stays lively while structured tannins give depth and adaptability with food. As always, Cru Beaujolais gives high QPR no matter the vintage. Drinking this bitch young as one should. — 6 years ago

Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

Watching football and drinking champs with KFC. Bereche is the bomb. I love opening it and waiting and hour or two to drink it, to let it balance out. I like to wait on all champagnes especially Bereche. After getting some air, you get such a nice mix of tart and sweet, like hard candy (Green apple jolly ranchers?), but you get the sophistication of a traditional 3 grape blend with a decent amount of reserve, plus some funkiness from all the naturalness of the process that they use to make it. It is a really smart wine that offers something for everyone without sacrificing anything or making compromises. I like this a lot more than a 9, but I have to save some digits for the Emidio Pepe '85s or the Pol Roger Winston Churchill '88s of the world. If you look at my scores, you see a lot of 9s but that's because I rarely write about wine I don't like. I don't want to be one of those yelpers who only bitch, especially when I know how much sacrifice goes into making great wine. I want to celebrate the Bereches of the world who go that extra mile to touch greatness, even though wine economics resist it. — 7 years ago

Merlot 2006

The Tedeschi Family Winery Stargazer Vineyards Napa Merlot 2006 is the bitch that everyone would die for, especially the ladies. Rich, full, wild and seductive like Carole in Top Gun hollering at Goose, this wine opens up and puts out intensely with an unbelievably deep scream, "Take me now or lose me forever". — 9 years ago

Red Cap Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Always and constantly astonishingly amazing and drinkable...Even enjoyably so. Showcasing a vast and complex array of deep, dark fruit and grandpa's cigar box characteristics. With a bass clef preceding notes of black cherries, leather and a smidge of vanilla, and purple flowers and red berries following the treble clef, this Howell Mountain cab packs a punch without hurting anyone. My stomach is jealous of my mouth for getting it first. — 7 years ago

Chateau Sablard Du Grand Moine

Lalande de Pomerol Merlot Cabernet Franc 2012

Picked this up for $12.99 at my local wine store, and I'm very satisfied. This just proves you don't have to always go with big names in the right bank. Honestly, this Lalande de Pomerol is straight up sexy and alluring. Color is a deep red ruby color with medium plus intensity. While pouring into the decanter, the color hypnotizes you into a wine dream. On the nose, it's medium-minus intensity makes you get up close and personal. Upon first sniff, I picked up black currants, tart cherries, cranberries, and violets. After taking my first sip, all those fruit aromas went away and I was left with more earthy and oaky notes. The French oak puts notes of cedar, clay, and smoke into the palate. I was surprised with the medium-plus acidity and woody tannins because of it being a right bank Bordeaux blend. Complexity came out after about 2 hours of just hanging out in the decanter. I highly recommend doing this. It was a stiff bitch before that. The tannins mellowed out and the heavy cedar notes became more subtle and balanced. Overall, what a good wine! The price doesn't hurt either! Cheers! — 8 years ago

Signature du Domaine Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 1999

This is what mid-priced burgundy is all about. A stubborn, tannic son-of-a-bitch with opaque but tantalising secondary aromas. A bit closed but still full of lovely dry tannins and refreshingly puckering acidity! — 8 years ago
