Coming off their highly successful 12’ & ‘13 vintages, the 2014 is also 100% Chardonnay straw with aromas of floral stone fruits and citrus notes. A terrific crisp sparkler with crisp apple, peach and lemon flavors, fine mousse with tiny bubbles. Tangy acidity on a lingering finish ending with a yeasty creamy character. Nice! — 6 years ago

Cork was almost black on the end. Dark purple in color. Heady scents of violets and smoke. First drink is bright raspberry with some acidity. It slides into dark fruit, gravel, smoke. Incredibly smooth. Finish leaves me wanting for more! — 7 years ago

A blend of 88% Pinot Noir and 12% Chardonnay with stone and berry fruit aromas and earthy spice. Over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph Napa for a book & bought a vineyard, Cakebread Cellars was born. I always liked Cakebread’s wine offerings, Chardonnay is no exception, consistent quality year/year. This was an early harvest showing aromas of green fruits, citrus & honey scents. On the palate complex flavors of apple, melon & lemon zest, balanced with good acidity & great mouthfeel. Lingering finish ending with sweet mineral spice. Nice now but a few years in cellar will benefit. — 9 years ago

Pastiche has half price wines on Wednesday’s so I went for one of their higher priced ($64) bottles. Haven’t had a Jack London Vineyard in a long time so I thought this was the time to try it. Not very complex and a tad sweet. I’m amazed that they can sell this at the $64 price on other nights. Don’t know the retail for this wine. Don’t think I would order again. — 6 years ago

Transparent burgundy with orange tinged halo in the glass. On the nose, one detects dark cherry, black pepper, and barely a hint of floral notes. The dark cherries reappear in the mouth with a bit of smoky sweet complexity and medium tannins. Finish lingers a little. I’d say it is quite a nice versatile wine. — 6 years ago
