Same comments as previously. This wine is fantastic! — 4 years ago
Thought it was white, imagine my surprise when I poured it to follow a rose. Zut alors! Very delicious, well balanced. 2016 needed a few mins to unwind. Where did it come from??? Lay and Wheeler? — 5 years ago
Hats off to Lay & Wheeler, this own-brand Barolo is absolutely stupendous. Blown away by its complexity, well balanced in every sense with plenty of bright fruit, fierce tannin and bracing acidity. The most memorable wine I’ve had recently. Left wanting more. — 6 years ago
No simile, nor metaphor, nor purple language can do this wine justice. It is a tangible piece of California history and winemaking in this country. The first Syrah to be produced and labeled as such. Grapes were harvested at 22.5 Brix and that acidity gave this wine a gorgeous vibrancy that was utterly surprising and totally pleasurable to drink. The grapes were a trial and planted in 1959 by UC Davis at the Wheeler Farm vineyards. Upon release, marketing notes made comparisons to Petite Syrah because that variety was so much more familiar to the US market. I hope that I age as gracefully as this syrah, which was still ready to play hop scotch on the playground at 42 years old (which in wine years is like 105). — 6 years ago

Beautiful light brick-brown colour with pink reflections. First nose evolved on dried fruits, nuts, apricots, then notes evoking maple syrup, peach syrup, hazelnut. Light, creamy, deep, paradoxical fine as great wines know how to make us experience it. Remanent finish, to be tasted certainly once in a lifetime when you can as an aperitif, such as on desserts based on nuts, chocolate, apricots, or with a camembert with raw milk. Serve a little refreshed.
— 3 years ago

I know the history of Trump Winery. All politics aside- for this review only, if you please- what Trump has done with this incredible property and the caliber facility that it has truly become- is a story into itself. The 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon ($25 from the tasting room) is the perfect style of red to enjoy with all kinds of fare. Winning a Gold medal at the Virginia Governor’s Cup- is actually quite the deal. In truth, it’s hopped into contention for my “vanishing middle class’s Cheeseburger Wine of the Year”- which is fairly less prestigious as the aforementioned, Virginia Governor’s Cup. It’s a simple delight with just enough stricture to hold up to all kinds of cuisine. From a deep garnet color the nose evolves and grows from simple notes of currant and blackberries into deeper, fuller expressions of those flavors. Medium-full bodied on the palate, earthy elements begin to emerge and frame flavors of blackberry, stewed cherries and a whisper of smoke. I’m blown away by its elegance and simplicity. Winemaker Jonathan Wheeler is most definitely someone to watch, and deserves a hand foe crafting this delightful, easy-drinking Virginia Cabernet. — 4 years ago
This is actually the 2016. I forgot to shoot an image.

Wheeler Farms was designed and built after Bart & Daphne Araujo sold Araujo to Chateau Latour. They spared no expense building their facilities and make 11 other labels there, including TOR.
This 17 Rosé is their first vintage and is a red blend.
Soft beautiful fruits, lean, watermelon, cherries, raspberries strawberries, peach, light beautiful minerality & spring flowers and pink roses. Beautiful acidity & finish. Nicely done.
