One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.
Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!
So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable? @philip Angino @Martin A. Brand new wine from Isaac Fernandez. Tempranillo from Tudela del Duero with only 6 months in oak. Straight off the container and into my glass. Super juicy red cherry and chalky mineral notes. Crisp and fresh on the palate. YUM! — 12 years ago
A delightful Spanish wine made up mostly of a clone of Tempranillo called Tinto Fino or "Fine Red". This wine is also considered one of Spain's finest (see Dominio de Pingus). Pesquera is owned by Alejandro Fernandez who goal is to make "masculine" wines. This is a good description. Meaty, bold but not overpowering like a Zinfandel. I'm sure the age of this vintage - 2009 - has helped its quality. — 9 years ago
Miel y Nectar. Buen valor. (B Fernandez) — 9 years ago
Color ruby, algo turbio. Nariz potente con olor a pimienta, piedra mojada por el mar, fruta madura, algo "funky". En boca buen balance y "savory" (umami), fruta madura, pimienta, ragu. (B Fernandez) — 9 years ago
Modern Ribera del Duero created by Isaac Fernandez , Javier and the Neo team. Velvety tannins and compact -robust feeling in the mouth. A full bodied red that has incredible potential for ageing. Bravo Aranda de Duero! — 10 years ago
Alejandro Fernandez Tempranillo + NY Strip Steak = heaven — 11 years ago
New project of Doug Shafer and Elias Fernandez. Beautiful Malbec - full body, lots of character, still young, probably needs more time, but definitely age worthy! Coffee beans, mocha, milk chocolate covered cherry, vanilla, sandalwood. Layers of complexity! Needs time to open up. Velvety finish. — 11 years ago
Excellent primitivo. 5£ a glass at Fernandez & Wells — 11 years ago

Spanish red QPR bomb. $12 on sale? More, please! — 13 years ago

Medium to deep garnet red with bricking on the edges. Stinky and savory on the nose straight from the get go. Opened up over the next half hour or so with stoney notes, a touch smoky and soft red cherries. Well integrated and smooth, moderate tannins (6/10). Beautiful aged characteristics on the palate with notes of dusty black cherries, a touch of chalk and dust, mushrooms, truffles, and also gains some aged red cherries. Medium plus body with a super long finish. This bottle has aged very well. Drink now if you like power in your Cabernet but this will keep for few more years. Drink till 2020. — 9 years ago

Alternativa mas económica que el Champagne. Buen balance de acido y azucar. Buena mineralidad con tonos de granito. Olores y sabores a miel tambien. Buen valor. ( B Fernandez) — 9 years ago

Medium ruby core with garnet edges. Aged characteristics on the nose with damp earth, a little espresso, a touch smoky, cinnamon and stewed plums. Medium tannins (6/10) and plus medium body. Dark cocoa on the attack of the palate intermingled with plums, black currants, black cherries and lots of spices. A bit of anise and the Petit Verdot coming through in the medium plus finish. Drink till 2018.
