Ionian Trilogy

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Blackcurrant and dark berries, asphalt, leather, and floral notes. Silky tannins, medium bodied with medium plus length, this is a wine of finesse for a Pauillac. Highly recommended. Third in the trilogy of great french wines tonight. Happy 4th of July !!! — 5 years ago

Day 3 in Napa in the books! Running a day behind on notes...Napa time runs slow AND fast!

Main reason we go out this time of year each year...the Flora Springs Trilogy Release Party! Very similar in style to their Rutherford Reserve Cab with more chocolate and roasted plum alongside red & black fruit. More plush than their other offerings.

Trout Trilogy Snake River Valley Syrah 2014

Subtle spice/pepper on the nose. Berry fruit with some resinous woody flavor followed by a nice bit of clovey finish that moderates the fruit. Smooth finish. A pleasant drinking wine for the price. — 7 years ago

Awesome!! Tammy and I visited them two years ago. Had a vertical tasting. Absolutely love it. Their wines have such depth, takes you through many levels. It is like walking down a narrow Medieval granite staircase. Great memories!!

Great to see sweet fortified wines still being made in Europe outside the traditional areas. Made from the local Teroldego grape, it's a rich purple colour, with bright, fresh red and black fruits. Intense, but very alive. Drunk and enjoyed with chocolate mousse trilogy. — 9 years ago

Fortified but subtle, sweet but subtle this was delicious with a beautiful bouquet of dried fruit and silkiness. Went perfectly with my chocolate dessert.

Bien Nacido Vineyard Hillside Estate Roussanne 2012

My final btl. A wonderful close to the trilogy. On the nose, a touch of reduction, Burgundian noble reduction in spirit, then pineapple, honey, almond. On the palate, excellent acidity, density, citrus, stone fruit...so good. — 6 years ago

Annual guys WTF Christmas party with spouses. Lots of great wine. I’ll post my highlights with pics I got.

Undoubtedly the best Flora Springs wine I’ve had to date. Always a special place in my heart for FS as their Trilogy wine was the wine that opened my eyes to the world of wine (and we trek out to Napa every year for the Trilogy Release party...6 weeks from today!). This offering, along with Rennie’s Reserve, are my favorites out of their single vineyard offerings. With 7yrs of age, this has really gotten compact and structured. So much sweet and dense fruit here...very dark fruit profile, along with creme de cassis, sandalwood and dust. Fig, nutmeg, with mixed berry pie toward the finish. Pop and pour! Thanks

@Ryan Vento : This is one of Flora’s single vineyard cabs. They have 4-5 of them. This, Rennie, and Wild Boar are their best offerings in my opinion.

@Keith Fisher : Yes, the ‘09 Turn Upside Down Grenache! It’s been opened a time or two at Classic (probably by you). Richard brought this one. A few people poured some heavy handed pours so I missed out on it this time.

One of my all time favorite wineries. (Probably because an old and well aged Trilogy is what got me hooked on wine!) Dark and purple. Slow moving legs. Smells of heavenly blackberries and currant...slight hint of leather. Tasted beautifully of vanilla oak, cinnamon and cola. Loved it as always. — 9 years ago

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.

One of the main reasons we go to Napa every year is to attend the Trilogy Release party. Trilogy holds a special place in my family’s heart and it’s always a treat to visit the estate where they pour it like water!

Very good now, and time will obviously help. Their Rutherford Hillside Reserve is my favorite single vineyard offering, but this is a close second. Lots of richly dark chocolate coated red, blue and black berry fruits, baking spices, plum and graphite aromatics. It drinks with added notes of dusty/chalky plum, cedar, and savory herbal spice.

@Ryan Vento Become a member at Joseph Phelps and attend their annual Member parties. Not only will the pour all their new vintages endlessly, they will pour 5-6 really old library wines near endlessly. I am talking 80’s library wines, not 2010-12.

The food is top notch & the 80’s wine generally is all 3L or bigger. 👍

A wonderful tasting put on by Classic Wine Storage featuring Long Shadows Winery. If you aren’t familiar with these wines, they are phenomenal WA state wines that are made by the likes of Randy Dunn, Phillipe Melka, Michel Rolland, John DuVall, and more.

Approachable red blend. To me, this is the pop and pour wine out of the lineup. Very plush. This reminds me of Flora Springs Trilogy Blend out of Napa with a bit more fruit on the finish. More milk chocolate than dark. Boysenberry, blue and black fruit medley.

A cab that wants to be a syrah. Black fruit dominant front, some weediness in the middle, but then rounds out rather nicely on the finish. Has a lot of black pepper on the end. Still showing some tannin here, and even a little bit of heat on the finish. I respectfully disagree with the 94.6 average on CT, as IMO this wine is a bit too unidimensional, but perhaps it is just because it's young. It echoes a previous experience I had with this wine a few years ago.
