Germans Balart

Domaine Marcel Deiss

Schoenenbourg Alsace Grand Cru Vendanges Tardives Riesling 2010

Pears and peaches and serious structure but damn it's so frustrating to pick up a bottle of what you think is dry reisling and finding out it has a ton of RS. Just label it like the Germans, please! — 10 years ago

Hugel et Fils

Cuvée Les Amours Alsace Pinot Blanc

$17.99/14.39. They hung both flags (German and French) during the Olympics. 2 sons had to enlist in the German army- one at northern Italy front and one at Russian front. From Alsace. Resistance fighter family, could help by knowing where the next fight would be when the Germans ordered a shipment to the next front. — 11 years ago

Good with Comte (cave) cheese. Same area. Minerally. Smells like petrol.

Schloss Schönborn

Riesling 2010

Really enjoyed this one. Peachy with maybe elderflower...grass? Meeting two Germans this week certainly inspires the pick. Would definitely get this again. — 12 years ago

Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Les Saint Georges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1928

Bottle recorked in 2008 and topped off with more 1928. This wine was taken by Erwan Faiveley's grandfather to his summer home when the Germans were occupying France during WW2. It was sealed in a crypt for three years while the Germans actually occupied the house. — 11 years ago

Kanta

Kanta Egon Muller Riesling 2009

2009 vintage. Pronounced nose of stone fruits - ripe apricot and peach - cream, wet rock minerality. TDN petrol and diesel notes that are well balanced with the fruit. On the palate, high acidity makes this wine super fresh, concentrated flavours of ripe peach, stone fruits and lime. The finish is sublime - it is lingering and begs another sip. This wine can age for a few years yet. A stunning effort from Egon Muller who makes us realise that dry Aussie Riesling is a style that is consistently superior to anything the Germans, Austrians or Alsatians can produce. When you realise the price, it is also incredible value. — 10 years ago

Navarro Vineyards

Anderson Valley Riesling 2004

I am also holding on to this baby. 2004 late harvest white riesling, not just any old riesling of theirs. Sweet memories of our friends' trip to Mendocino and stopping to fall in love with Navarro on the way. More on the white peach, nectarine, elderflower, lichee side than the petrol oily side of riesling, but good against the Germans any day. — 11 years ago

Firestone Walker Brewing Company

Double Jack Double IPA

Amazing Brew, Excellent example of a truly great west coast IPA, this is the reason beer lovers from other countries are seeking out these fine brews, Germany was always the true brew masters, but even Germans are giving high praises to brew like this one, talk to people in the UK and they are blown away my this brew and others from Firestone and Stone, Balast Point, really great to see this happening here in the Great USA, Proud to call this brew as OURS! — 11 years ago

Taittinger

La Francaise Brut Champagne Blend

$57.99/46.39 good with food. More mild, not too tart or acidic. Tatting we saved Paris by pleading with the Germans not to blow up the historical landmark. Domaine Carneros in California is a Tattinger estate. — 11 years ago
