Keefer Ranch Green Valley Pinot Noir 2014

After drinking a Pinot from Anderson Valley this RRV is a strong contrast. Elegance vs exuberance. I love Keefer. Also, this was even better day two. — 6 years ago

Russian River Valley Brut White Blend

Jo Freeman... Bravo...BRAVO. I honestly have to say, this guy has managed to encapsulate the ambience of french champagne, exceptionally. Gorgeous floral, citrus aromas, and a very lively pallet of green apples, minerals, light toast, and medium+ fizz. There was just an atmosphere of happiness in this bottle! Before I knew it, the bottle was empty, and I definitely want to keep this in my back pocket for a great finish to my day! — 9 years ago

Migration (Duckhorn Vineyards)

Charles Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

The Migration label first appeared in 2001 as the second label of Goldeneye, both under the Duckhorn masthead, first focusing on Pinot Noir and later adding Chardonnay. Like Paraduxx to Duckhorn, it is no longer a second label, but a winery unto itself. In 2008 Migration, and by extension, Duckhorn, produced its first Chardonnay. In 2009 they produced their first Chardonnay from the legendary Charles Heintz Vineyard. The Charles Heintz Vineyard is located just outside of the town of Occidental where Charlie’s family has farmed the land for over 100 years. Two ridges in, and only about 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is situated in the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA. Heintz has become one of the most famous Chardonnay sites in California, with notable producers including Ceritas, DuMol, Freeman, Flowers, L'Angevin, Kosta Browne, Littorai, Migration/Duckhorn, Moone-Tsai, Pierson Meyer, and Williams Selyem. With its classic Goldridge sandy loam soils, and located just above the fog line, the vineyard receives abundant sunshine and cool ocean breezes. Super mellow Chardonnay, with candied orchard fruit, honeysuckle, wet stone, and some secondary hazelnut, with just a flutter of mushroom in the background. — 7 years ago

Wow. Didn't know they worked with Heintz. One of my favorite small producers, Montagu Wines, has a Heintz chard coming out in a year or two. Their Durell vineyard and Ritchie vineyard (with the help of Russell Bevan on the Richie one) have been outstanding. Looking forward to trying Heintz.

Alexander Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Still haven't had a wine made by Jo Freeman that I wasn't impressed by. Gorgeous dark purple color, with a highly aromatic nose, and notes of coffee, rich in blueberries and black berries with a round off of red currant, delicately wrapped in vanilla, spice, passing over the pallet in fine silk with a mild tannin, and ending in a finesse of mocha and creme-de-casis. The alcohol content is well under 14%, making it easy to drink by itself, especially after half an hour of decantering. Had half the bottle at home and half the bottle at a family owned Greek restaurant with a grilled lamb dish and it was perfect! I definitely want to try any other cabs he has crafted! Bravo! — 9 years ago
