Was very surprised how good this was after decant, only got it since my sons name is "Tate" — 9 years ago
2006. Liked this very much without food. We drank this with Tate the night before Thanksgiving 2011. Doesn't seem to give me a hangover ;) — 10 years ago

What a treat! Extremely powerful in its youth but that's what happens when you use 60%+ new French oak. Initially decanted this for 2 hours, but it ended up finally showing the tip of the iceberg at 3. The nose was enticing, showing spicy cedar, clove and cigar ash components, and brambley red fruits. The juice itself was dark purple and had long, slow moving legs, showing its high alcohol and concentration. The pallet exhibited notes of pomegranate seeds, tobacco, black pepper, black berries, smoke, vanilla extract, faint hints of dark chocolate powder and we'll integrated tannins tightly weaving all the complex layers together and producing a gripping finish. This juice needs much more time in the bottle, but was an absolute pleasure to experience now. Way to go David Tate! You're a heck of a wine maker!

The Barnetts are first class people, and operate a first class winery. If you're in Napa you owe it to yourself to make the trek up to take in their spectacular views and fantastic wines!
This is the best example of the Sangiacomo Chardonnay I've had to date. Baked pears, apricots, and butterscotch leap from the Glass without any coaxing. The palate follows through with similar intensity as well.
An abv listed at 14.7% is very well concealed. Oak, fruit, and acidity are all in harmony. Thank you David Tate for making the type of chardonnay I've been craving lately. — 8 years ago
