Fallen Brewing

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1995

Potpourri, spice cabinet and dried figs. The acidity had fallen off a bit more than I prefer, but still enjoyable. — 10 years ago

Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

2007 in 2016. Fruit has fallen and has become a little port, a little tawny, but there's a vanillin, a dustiness over dried red fruit and prune that reminds me of a great old Rioja that made me really enjoy this. — 10 years ago

Laura Zahtila Vineyards

Oddone Vineyards Zinfandel 2007

2007 in 2016. Integrated, but some of the fruit has fallen. Blackberry, boysenberries, a touched aged leather. Medium body — 10 years ago

DeLille Cellars

D2 Columbia Valley Merlot Blend 2007

More ripe then the 2013 tasted side by side. Pedigree is evident but fallen into a bit of a lazy slump. — 10 years ago

Intellego

Elementis Skin Contact Chenin Blanc 2013

A very natural wine with low alcohol (12,5 %), very fruity, mild. Straw colour, unfiltered, not clear, like a light pear juice. Overripe fallen apples, peach and honeybush tea with light scent of vanilla sticks on the nose. Fresh, full aroma of yellow peach, Japanese pears, muscat, quince. A powerful finish, the medium acidity slightly overpowers the extreme fruitiness. A demanding wine. I actually prefer the Intellego Chenin. — 11 years ago

Yann Chave

Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2009

Ryan Brazell
8.9

First tried in 2011 and thought it tasted like the color purple. Much of the primary stuff has fallen away and it turns out there's an elegant wine beneath the '09 effusive fruit. — 11 years ago

Emplacement

Syrah 2011

Good balance between acidity, tannins and fruit. Fields in morning dew, with hints of crush fallen acorns and pepper in the nose. Pepper, blackberries and willow reed flavors. — 12 years ago

Château Lynch-Moussas

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

The comments on this wine are amusing. However, it is certainly true to a good French Bordeaux. This is a bottle I won't be sharing with anyone, as I am selfish when it comes to a Red that I have fallen in love with! — 10 years ago

Fox Gordon

By George Cabernet Tempranillo 2012

I’m not familiar with Tempranillo, so I am unsure what its specific contribution to the wine is. I can only compare the wine to the Brothers and Sisters cabernet I’ve recently fallen in love with.

By George shares the same elegance as its sister wine, with a more savoury core, eschewing some sweetness and vibrancy, for darker more brooding flavours. Dark plum, cherry and dried blueberry fruits set the scene, but it’s the smoky cured meats, volcanic rock, cedar and tobacco on the mid and back palate that bring the party to life. It’s a flavour profile I haven’t encountered before, but I like it a lot. The soft tannins are well integrated, the balance slightly acidic, but not objectionable, lending a lingering spiciness to the finish.

Another Fox Gordon masterpiece. The love affair continues…

Realm Cellars

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

A terrific example of an older vintage of Realm, I think this might be the first year they sourced grapes from the Dr Crane vineyard. Classic Napa cab with aromas of blackberry, cassis, hints of leather, and an undercurrant of vanilla still prevalent from the barrel ageing. Initially the wine exhibited firm tannins on the palate, but after an hour they soften up considerably...and after another 30 min they had really fallen away. The wine stayed in balance and is drinking well, but I suspect this is starting on the downslope. If you have any in your cellar, I'd suggest opening them up within the next couple of years. Terrific wine from Juan and his team at Realm! — 10 years ago

Flanagan

Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2013

NB: we popped what was left of this bottle after it had been "Coravined" (which is rapidly on its way to becoming a verb) for about four months. Only half of the bottle remained, so we popped it, poured glasses then decanted the rest.
Important to note that part of this experience because the wine had changed over he time of its first pour back in April of this year in the sense that while still potent & impressive, it seems to have fallen asleep a bit, and is not revealing its potential of rich, buttery lusciousness. Yet.
..:k, hold on ;).
It's beautiful, and as it breathes, opens and warms, it's blossoming into all the expectations one demands to fill at this $$$. +$. And it's growing as I type.

So with the obvious caveat in having the Coravin acting as our variable in the equation - she held up well enough for us to relish in it tonight. To swim around in the lusciousness of the Russian River Valley- even if we had to be quiet so as to not wake he folks who owned the pool. I snuck a kiss in there somewhere. Eventually & with care.

Throw some beautifully prepared artichokes and some crab legs into that Russian River Valley- and you got a STEW BABY!
