J J Confuron. Always been a producer I've been fond of. Yes, maybe a bit more forward in style, but a house I trust. First chance to try something with age, and it didn't not disappoint. Amazing earth and hen of the woods style notes. Someone called the 'sock-ey' but I wouldn't go so far. The reamed more of Mother Nature than the man who inhabits her. Leflaive x Grolleau. Super interesting. Unlike any Grolleau I've ever had. Not grape-ey or beaujolais-like, but firm, tannic, and (most likely) age-worthy. It's probably not worth $50 retail but is the best and most shining example of its kind. #decantthis #leflaive — 10 years ago

Pancakes and Sauternes.
Two guilty pleasures.
Voluptuous nose on opening, wafting honey, beeswax, glue, apricotpreserve, molasses and that savoury twang I often pick up in mature Sauternes (something shrimpy/bacon-ey). Rounded and sweet in the mid-palate, getting more dry towards the finish which is starting to show a faint metallic note now, suggesting that this wine should be drunk earlier rather than later.
