Drank back to back to continue. Pleasant and fruity but earthy. Well balanced. Best of their Pinots and hopefully not just the vintage. — 2 years ago
Prune flavors, but dry and round. Spicy/woody on the finish. Unassuming but complexly flavored. Deserves its own attention — don’t smother with food — 5 years ago

@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.
This dessert wine is about the same age as my Dad. When you can associate a wine/vintage personally, it really opens your eyes to how wine can hold. This is undoubtedly Pedro Ximenez, which I guessed. It reminds me of a non-vintage port with a balsamic mix to it. Tons of black licorice, old brown sugar, and the aforementioned balsamic vinaigrette note. Incredible for the age. — 7 years ago

Great Mexican wine from Baja California!!! — 4 years ago
Stewed and baked fruit, charred wood, vanilla on the finish. Bordering on overripe and the oaks a bit much for my taste, but the acid/tannin structure keeps this enjoyable. — 4 years ago
Singed wood, dried tobacco, bitter almond, this has a lot to give. — 7 years ago
Nice to taste a bottle before it was famous. — 8 years ago
In 1979 John Shafer founded Shafer Vineyards in the Stags Leap District of Napa. A blend of 97% Syrah & 3% Petite Sirah, notably small PS% which varies each year. The work of Elias Fernandez, fruit from La Mesa Vineyard, a ridgetop of shallow soils & volcanic ash. Stunning red with full black fruit aromas and pepper spice with floral edge. On the palate blackberry flavors, spice, oak and earthy notes. Big fine tannins, vivid acidity, good balance on lingering finish ending with cacao tones. Will cellar well. — 8 years ago
