Very complex and captivating nose of patisserie, vanilla, maraschino, dried oranges, prunes, dates, pomegranate, cranberries, cinnamon, old foudres and dried flowers. Very lively, sour cherry-like acidity, but not overbearing. Long, elegant and powerful. Some ferous notes in the midpalate at first, but this dissolves after some aeration. Really something that those who like aged Nebbiolo should try! — 9 years ago
I love this! Old school Merlot. Aged in old foudres. No new oak. Light red that's quite fruity and medium bodied with good acidity. So drinkable. — 10 years ago

Aligoté doré from the village of Bouzeron (which boasts the best Aligoté in Burgundy and an AOC dedicated to this grape), by none other than Aubert de Villaine, legendary codirector of Domaine de la Romanée Conti. From old, low-yielding, organically farmed vines on the appellation’s highest slopes, vinified in foudres and aged for 10-12 months. Bright, elegant, complex and mineral. Dry but delicate. Apple. Moderate ruby red with prominent aromas of black cherry, licorice, and garrigue accompanied by subtle meatiness and hints of smoke. Medium bodied on the palate, it offers flavors of mineral infused cherry liqueur and finishes with silky tannins. It’s made from a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre which spent 24 months in large oak foudres before bottling. This is a great example of this wonderful vintage at a reasonable price and it’s drinking very well now. $45. — 9 years ago
Completely mature, of course.
Delicious notes of old foudres, gasoline, smoky minerals, wet rocks, narcissus, grilled carrots, apple sauce and nectarine.
Very elegant and traditional, after 9 years this is turning more and more similar into a classic spätlese.

Originally a collaboration between the late great Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Claude Chanudet and Joseph Chamonard, the vines are now managed by Jean-Claude & Genevieve Chanudet, carbonic maceration, wild yeast, grapes aged in 200 year-old foudres, explosion of red & blue fruits, not much tannin or acid, just pure fruit deliciousness. It won't change your life but damn this is brilliant for the price. — 10 years ago
Mineral galore! Crushed rocks, wet river pebbles, mossy granite, wet wool, fresh straw, touch of gasoline. But also spun sugar, lemon oil, peach kernel, incense, old foudres. Crystalline, complex and carressing, this is a helluva dry (!) Riesling from the same Grand Cru site as the famous Clos St. Hune. This is a real eye-opener for me, maybe a tad too advanced for its age, but at 18€ an absolute recommendation to buy. And drink. Right now. — 10 years ago
Loved the old-fashioned funk in this one: old foudres, sweat, wool and fur, wet mossy rocks, spicy minerals, mountain meadows, fresh herbs, blood orange. Elegant, full of detail, good concentration. Fantastic! — 11 years ago
Great value in village level Beaujolais with a very typical Gamay nose of leather, smoke, and earth which also come through on the palate with a dose of added spice from a little stay in oak foudres. Old vines, delicious, restrained and all you can ask for at this price. — 12 years ago
Clean, Cristalclear and Precise.
Peat, resin, reine claude plums, chalk, lemonpreserve, yeast, tripel ale, iodine, old foudres, hyacinth... I could go on and on.
Very elegant and complex. Thirstquenching yet cerebral.
A wonderful wine in a unique style that reminds me of Chablis from Raveneau. — 7 years ago
Garnacha at its finest, sourced from vineyards at about 800 meters around Rozas del Puerto Real, and aged in old oak foudres. Fresh and lively with exquisite aromas of strawberries, raspberries, lavender, thyme, licorice, and crushed rock. A light bodied red with sweet red fruits on entry, crunchy refreshing midpalate with some umami notes followed by saline minerality that intermixes with exotic spices. Easy to drink and quite refreshing. — 8 years ago
Crazy awesome Provence pink. Aged sous voile in foudres for a year. Bracing and salty. Brined blood orange and strawberry, garrigue, and a crushed seashell-esque saline minerality. Medium (+) acid, medium (-) body, bone dry. Absolutely killer with spaghetti squash carbonara!! — 10 years ago
Unripe peaches and green apple skin on the nose, a beautiful peaches and cream presence on the palate with just a hint of vanilla and old foudres. — 10 years ago
Poured blind to me. Thought it was an older vintage of one of the great Bandol producers. Surprise! Not so old Chianti! Sophisticated, earthy, elegant. Aged in foudres of Slovenian oak. No Cabernet or Merlot added. Will certainly come back to this wine. — 10 years ago
Sticky, spiky nose with a bit of canned fruit and a whiff of alcohol. Cranberry and cherry blossom. Slightly tart in the mouth with some hints of warm spice and oak foudres. Nice. — 10 years ago
Field blend concrete open vats aged six months in 500 liter foudres perceptible acidity but soil related. — 11 years ago
Deep, intense black fruits, dried herb, rock. Slightly hot. Amphora aged 500L - Carrignan & Foudres for Garnacha — 11 years ago
Familia Nin-Ortiz’s 2009 Planetes de Nin is sourced from a contiguous 11 acre parcel all planted on llicorella and farmed biodynamically. The wine is made up of 70% Garnacha and 30% Cariñena aged in big foudres.
It is dark purple in color with an intriguing nose of black berries as well as mineral, lavender, and black cherry. On the palate it flows with gorgeous freshness and purity of fruit and a Juicy acidity.

Black truffle cherry fruit with pretty floral notes and menthol notes very pretty nose. The family is 4th generation and they are a small 5 hectare estate, traditionalist ages in foudres but is using some new oak but larger nice structure and depth of flavors hints of earth and fine tannins through the finish. Finish 35+ excellent — 13 years ago

Bright violet. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes succulent red and blue fruits, exotic spices and candied flowers. Palate-staining, intense raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors take a sweet turn on the back half. Finishes extremely long and spicy, with repeating florality and steadily building but deftly interwoven tannins. Aged in foudres and clay amphoras. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, February 2020)
