Last bottle of this very impressive Chardonnay. Still very flinty and burnt match on the nose with a slightly sweeter palate than the last note. That grapefruit in its youth is now more yellow peach. Technical notes - using the P58 clone. All grapes were hand harvested prior to whole bunch pressing to French Oak puncheons - 30% new oak. Malolactic conversion was prevented. Drinking at its peak - made by one of Australia’s leading exponents of Chardonnay In David Bicknell. This is world class! — 7 months ago

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.
Theorem was one of our highlights last year, so we made sure a return visit was lined up this year. Base of Diamond Mtn with one of the most beautiful properties I’ve seen. Over the last 12 months, they’ve added a couple new wines (with more to come from Moon Mountain). TRB is the winemaker.
In the running for red wine of the trip. When visiting last year, I preferred the ‘14 (ripe, balanced, savory) over the ‘15 (more acidity, touch lighter, high toned)...this ‘13 takes the best of each and marries them. This is a classic high end TRB Cabernet from a stellar vintage. Truffles raspberries, candied black cherries, cocoa dusted mixed berry pie and graphite aromatics accompanied by sweet blueberries, freshly squeezed blackberries, toffee and espresso, baking spices, and fine grained tannins. Built like a tank. Superb. — 4 years ago
Popped and poured. Deep ruby color with moderate staining of the tears. Developing, with a fairly becoming nose with ripe black plums, dark bramble fruit, vanilla, some pipe tobacco, some chocolate and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium(+?) acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. It’s really primary now but it should drink better after 2025 and through 2034. — 7 months ago
Very good Cabernet Sauvignon. $40 complex — 8 months ago
My pick for their best 13 wine when I barrel tasted all their wines. It doesn’t disappoint years later. So much, lush, ruby, richer & riper than the 05 Lynch Bages. Night & day different. The fruits fall into black currents, ripe, lush, velvety; blackberries, very dark raspberries, black plum, dark cherry skin, raspberry notes as it opens, raisins, tarry notes, dark spices, anise that falls into black licorice, , dry tobacco, barrel shavings, melted caramel, dark chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, bright graphite notes, most clay, true Rutherford, dust dry herbaceous notes, mid to dark berry cola, dry brush, tree bark w/ a touch of sap, crushed, dry rock, volcanics, dry soil with sand mixed in, violet frame with fresh & whitening, dark, purple and red florals framed in violets & lavender, perfect, rainfall acidity and well balanced, structured finish with nice tension, polished w/ Orchestra strings over the top, velvety, finish that lasts two-minutes. As good as I expected. A nice follow up to the 05 Lynch Bages. Corn from my organic garden. Ten or more years of life left. — 10 months ago
Really love what the 04 vintage is showing these days. This Cliff Lede Diamond Mountain is at its peak and will reman there for another three years or so.
One of the best noses on a Cabernet I have put my nose into in sometime. Ripe, ruby, lush perfumed floral fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, boysenberries, dark cherries, poached/baked strawberries with blue fruit heaven that moves from glass edge, center & back. Dark spices, anise core to black licorice, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and round vanilla, dark fruit cola, dark chocolate, black steeped tea, savory, grilled meats, dry crushed rocks, dry herbs/bay leaf dominant, leather, slightly older tobacco, dark, rich earth, dry top soil with dark, purple, blue, red floral framed in mixed violets and lavender.
The body is full, round and pure velvet. Tannins are still showing adolescent teeth that are tarry & chewy. This 04 has 7-10 years of good drinking ahead of it...properly stored of course. The structure, tension, length and balance are at its high point and heavenly for the serious Napa Cabernet lover. It’s a super, gorgeously sexy wine. Ripe, ruby, lush perfumed floral fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, boysenberries, mulberries, dark cherries, poached/baked strawberries with blue fruit heaven. Dark spices, anise core to black licorice, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and round vanilla, dark fruit cola, dark chocolate, caramel, mocha powder, black steeped tea, savory, grilled meats, sweet, dark tarriness, dry crushed rocks, dry stones, limestone, palate, penetrating volcanic minerals, dry herbs/bay leaf dominant, French oak shavings, leather, slightly older tobacco, dark, rich earth, dry top soil with dark, purple, blue, red floral framed in mixed violets and lavender. The acidity is round and nearly perfect holding back the slightly elevated alcohol level. The long finish is; well balanced to perfection fruit & earth with a soft dusty tannins that long set into dark spice & bright florals for days that persist endlessly.
Just misses 9.5.

Getting better with age. . . Still not an overly complex cab but much more blended tannins that provide a smoothness that covers up the limited flavors. Still have some bottles and look forward to seeing how this is in future years. — 6 months ago
