Solid full bodied Pinot — 7 years ago
Delightful and crisp blanc de Cabernet--white wine made from red Cabernet Sauvignon grapes--bright acidity, citrus forward, slight minerality, vivid notes of passion fruit, overall definitely worth a detour from our staple of Sauvignon blancs — 9 years ago
This is a Beaujolais that you serve to naysayers. Complex aromatics of earth, iron, smoke and red fruit. Paves your mouth with minerals and tart fruits . Takes a slight detour on the finish but I believe that is due to the wine's structure and not a flaw. It will be fascinating to watch the remaining bottles develop over the next 5 to 8 years. — 10 years ago

worth detour... <3 — 7 years ago
A knockout wine. The nose shows florals, tree bark, and dark fruit. The palate is all about balance. Unmistakably California with ripe fruit intertwined with anise and earth, layered beneath the firm structure. The finish is lush and long with a bit of dark chocolate. I usually stick to my regulars, the Napa stalwarts, but this was a nice detour. — 7 years ago
Weird wine for dark times. Briny, iodine, very subtle melon. Picked it up at the Adega co-op near Sintra. Well-worth the detour. — 9 years ago
Tones of dark fruit and earthy spice. A detour for someone who is generally more interested in lesser-known regions than Bordeaux // 2001 to celebrate the 15th birthday of DB Bistro — 9 years ago

Elegant wine Achaval Ferrer use to offer only high priced wine when I visited the winery in Mendoza in 2011. Now they do also more affordable wines in the 29 dollar range, Cab and Malbec. Worth a detour — 9 years ago
Very good, very big - a kind if detour or rerouting of my taste buds back to a different time (drinking so many more natural wines with lower alcohol content these days). But still lovely. — 9 years ago

In 2000, Frank Prial wrote in his NY Times' column that Maranges was poised to become "more than a detour into obscurity, thanks to one of the most coveted forms of recognition a wine can have in France: an appellation." At the time, it was Burgundy's newest AOC. 15 years later, Maranges remains in the outer boroughs in the mind of the American wine-drinking public. If there's one winemaking duo who can change that it's the Chevrot brothers, Pablo and Vincent. They are building on the reputation their parents established (also noted in Prial's column) and the current vintage tasted just last week in France is positively brimming with life and energy. Until those arrive, the 2012 Croix Moines is drinking beautifully, full of bramble and solid Burgundian earth. Who says there's no values left in Burgundy?! — 10 years ago
