By the end of night one the cerebral roller coaster ride left me bewildered. Despite being guilty of infanticide, the wine was not necessarily closed for business. Rather, it was like tasting four or five different wines over a few hours. A darker than usual kirsch provides a canvas for the swirling plethora of flowers, herbs, meat, and earth, with a distinctly saline minerality (which might be the only constant here). By night two it reached its destination of charmingly pleasurable and no longer required as much thought, thankfully. — 9 years ago

What more could you ask for with sous vide ribeye finished on the grill whilst watching the sunset in Wailea?! Stock up at Costco before getting to your final destination. — 6 years ago
Purple, smells like a Malbec. Nice finish, easy drinking. :-) — 7 years ago
This mango tropical fruit orange wine that im obsessed with (maybe im basic). Structured fun that I love as an aperitif or as a late night sip.an Italian will probably say this is a food wine but don't listen I wanna pop this every day and feel like I'm on vacation. Destination wedding wine for someone that has never been invited to one and probably never will be — 8 years ago
Santorini is best known as a honeymoon destination and recently acclaimed Asyrtiko white vintage Mavrotragano is a rare, elitist vine that can flourish in the volcano soil of Santorini and become the base of this unique red. Nothing like I have ever experienced among big red vines: unique depth, color, mixed flavors, color — 9 years ago
An elegant wine that shows its class in a tough vintage. Dried flowers, sweet rich cassis, blacktop. The real star tonight was the venue. About 35 minutes out from my old country farm and located in Kinston, NC is The Chef and the Farmer by Vivian Howard. An amazing farm to table with flair creation in the food graveyard of Eastern NC. Extraordinary apps and entrees, fresh modern but comfortable environs and friendliness from everyone....and I'm confident they have the best wine list for 250 miles. A true destination dining experience. Thank you @DAG for the recommendation and intro. — 9 years ago
I am going to rank this high for no other reason than its label and taste evoke charming tree-lined streets, fields of sunflowers as far as the eye can see, sailboats bobbing at dead ends of sandy lanes, fresh farm stands piled high with tomatoes and roasted corn, and shaded fields with chickens playing in plastic baby pools. North Fork, my new favorite nearby vacation destination. — 7 years ago
Opened up very nicely — 7 years ago
Very promising South African wine. Franschhoek has established itself as a great wine destination for some reason. Round, balanced, warm and elegant. — 8 years ago
Is there another gear when you ratchet up your wine experience?
Clos de la Tech Pinot tasting -- outstanding craftsmanship and pursuit of quality. Intro of 2012 vintage features several stars, led by Cote de Sud -- truly a nugget among semi-precious gems. And then...back to the residence for 2012 Mastro Janni Brunello (swell) followed by 2009 Brigaldara Amarone (special). And then...out comes the 2000 Quintarelli Valpolicella -- is there another level, an overdrive gear from here? Arguably NO, this Quintarelli answers every question wine consumers may conjure. Yes, I believe this is the destination! — 8 years ago
If chardonnay was made in a lemonade flavor. Perfect pairing with Meg Myers "Lemon Eyes" but was made better with U2's Lemon...
A man builds a city
With banks and cathedrals
A man melts the sand so he can
See the world outside
A man makes a car
(She's your destination)
And builds roads to run them on
A man dreams of leaving
But he always stays behind
And these are the days
When our work has come asunder
And these are the days
When we look for something other

Occhipinti Siccagno Nero d'Avola 2013
She came on dark turning rubyesque, a spin and first kiss, dripping red from my lip to my white linen cuff, not unlike the juicy explosion of a ripe blackberry, her color and allure dancing in the decanter, then leaning closer, more warmly spilling into my glass, she dips and turns, another spin, I breathe her in and her earthen essence laced lightly but luxuriously in red and black fruit lingers and lures me to drink, her acid does a balancing act with a purple plum preponderance her tannins squeeze holding the moment, we go deeper, darker until she dives disrobing as she rolls, slides, sideslips and seduces another dance, another turn, another twist - "and the band plays on..." For the love of the juice🍷🕶🌀
PS: kale salad @ Il Palio, in Chapel Hill is brilliant! Don't miss that place when there, or, make it a destination - digging their grilled octopus, too🍷🕶🌀 — 9 years ago
Ming L
A rich and savory blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah, it offers a deep and complex nose of currants, plum, black pepper, black tea, dried mushrooms, saddle wood, and dark chocolate. Bright acidity brings energy to a full body.
Could not be more happy to pick out this gem at a great restaurant in Macau, probably one of the most under-the-radar (certainly not underrated as this tiny peninsula boasts 3 Michelin 3-star restaurant) food destination. — 6 years ago
