René Bouvier

La Justice Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2012

Said my 14-year-son as I decanted this wine and let him take a sniff: "It smells more than any other wine I ever smelled before!" The notes of red PN-typical fruits are really intense and interesting, and, on the one hand, the wine delivers hints of horse-stable and earth, and on the other hand, has a lovely sensual perfume; the mid-palate-dominated wine has soft tannins, a northern-Rhône-like "meat-savouriness", and a rather short finish that nevertheless reveals potential for developmemt. Some new oak is evident on the palate and alcohol seems higher than the restrained 13% indicated. The La Justice commune-appelation plots are located northeast of the Gevrey-Ch. village. Will try again in 2018 (and then I will remember to play the same recording of The New World Symphony as today; music & wine is as important as wine & food to me). Had with gruyere and spanish ham cut from the hiney of a pata negra acorn-fed pig. — 11 years ago

Commune de Pully

Cave De La Commune De Pully 2012

2012 vintage - we had this Swiss wine from the Lavaux last night with grilled sausages. The spicy gaminess of the Gamaret - Diolinoir blend went nicely with the meal. — 11 years ago

Paul Achs

Pannobile Red Blend 1997

Dan Fredman
9.8

Fruit, brett, sex. Middleweight champ of the wine world, pushes all my buttons (at least the good ones). Still vibrant and intriguing, I wish I had the opportunity to experience this wine over a couple of hours. Paul Achs is an impressive winemaker. — 12 years ago

Maybe it was the 12 hours of work prior . Maybe it's the drop in temperature these last couple of days . This wine straight from opening hit all the happy buttons. Drink it on its own on with some rustic bread , olive oil and a selection of non supermarket , unpasteurised rind washed cheeses . — 11 years ago

Maison B. Perraud

Fleurie Gamay 2013

Perhaps my favorite Perraud yet. Hits all the right “thinking wine” buttons – no mucking around in the winery, minimal sulfur addion, great care taken in the vineyards, blah blah blah. And quite delicious. Best with a slight chill and can go for days without losing its tastiness. Dark berry fruits, mulberry skins, underlying minerality and texture that manages to be a touch silky and crunchy all at once. (‘Crunchy??’ Yes, crunchy. Think of that snap of freshness when you bite into an apple. That’s crunchy.) — 11 years ago

Gris St Marry Adelaide Hills Rosé Blend 2013

A creamy, textural, no-thinking, easy drinking turkish delight in a bottle. Perhaps a hint of cinamon and butter in there too. — 11 years ago

Three Whites Adelaide Hills White Blend 2015

Absolutely divine little blend of Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris sourced from the ever so promising Basket Range. One of the more smashable drops you will have for the year. Cloudy and Juicy in appearance. Prominent Gewurz making itself apparent early with a touch of the sweetest of spices and a big hit of Rosewater and juicy plum flesh. Crisp acidity and a slightly zippy mouth feel. The palate delivers with delicate violets, rosewater, white plums and pink lemonade, never would've picked any Gris until a tiny finish of pear. Can not go wrong in the slightest for the price if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one. Enjoyed with some spinach gnocci — 11 years ago
