Taste: smooth, satiny, structured, balanced wine with chocolate covered brambly blackberry, tobacco, earth, cedar, black pepper, and a herbal licorice long finish. At the Peter Lehmann dinner at the Downs Club. These notes are for the 2010 vintage. Stonewell is all about strength and power. Aromas of coffee grounds and a touch of aniseed amongst the black fruits. Not as pruney as the 2006 had recently. Much more acceptable than the ultra ripe styles of 5 plus years ago. Whenever we drink this, we remember a lovely picnic at the winery with @Joe Lucca and his wife Diana. Chappellet’s wines are as impressive as the winery. This is a more restrained, subtle Napa cab, tilting more towards a French Bdx, as opposed to the more common Napa exuberance. The nose of soft oak and coffee notes displays elegance. The palate is pure and clean. With no signs of aging, delicate notes of black cherries and truffles are packaged with polished tannins and neutral oak. Drinking this was like standing in an art gallery while admiring a lovely piece of art - a wonderful experience. — 7 years ago

Coolish and classic nose. Kinda smooth.
On the palate sturdy tannines! Lots of minerality, yet very soft acidity. Black fruit, cloves, coffee, smoke, leather and graphite.

Interesting blend of traditional Corvina with some Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon added in. Half of the grapes are partially dried in the appasimento style. Beautiful aromas and flavors of dried cherries, prunes, baking spices, coffee and tobacco. Dark purple color, full bodied with velvety tannins. Vibrant acidity. Balanced and fresh. The 2016 Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande is simply sensational in this vintage. This brilliant wine is made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc and it exudes sheer class and elegance. It begins to impress with its beautifully pure aromatics of fresh dark currants, exotic spices, coffee bean, spring florals, graphite, tobacco all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is medium to full-bodied with remarkable structure, balance and depth. It further impresses displaying striking precision and definition through the long, graceful finish. The 2016 may require a decade of cellaring, but it is such a beautiful wine and clearly has the potential to be an all-time classic from this legendary Château. — 6 years ago
