Another one of my contributions. WOTN for sure. When the dinner got planned for Cody I just knew the time had come to kill off this 🦄. During the work week my wife goes home for lunch, so on the day of the dinner I had her open this bad boy and put it in a decanter. Fast forward 8+ hours later and it was still a little tight when first sampling it over dinner. However, the insane part was that it evolved at a mind-blowing rate, dropping its guard and unleashing a payload of fragrance that absolutely shocked people. The whole table was fixated and enamored with this wine and it only got better as the night progressed. Drank beautifully with a heavily perfumed nose of musk, sandalwood, tonka, red fruits, and granite. True craftsmanship, such finesse and power. This was an ethereal experience. — 6 years ago

Celebrating @Cody Cotten 's bachelor party downtown Austin. Lambert's BBQ is some of the best around! Decent wine list and zin and BBQ is a favorite pairing of mine. Never had this, but it's nice for the price. Definitely not a jam fruit bomb that some zins (Rombauer) are. More balance with spice here. Fruit preserves on the nose along with cedar. Medium bodied and better after at least 30-45mins. Blackberries, blueberries and black cherry. Cola too. Feels like a zin and Pinot combo the more I think about it. One of the NYE bottles, contributed by my good buddy @Cody Cotten , who brought this back after his visit to Italy a month ago.

Dark ruby in color; awesome aromatics of charred rose petal, cherry tobacco, saddle leather and plum. Rich on the palate up front with blackberry, fig and dates but the mid palate and finish turn more underripe black cherry. Slight iron finish too. I’m really selective about the Italian wines I enjoy, and this was very good, and will likely be killer in 3-5yrs. Thanks Cody! — 7 years ago

Medium ruby core with garnet edges. Aged characteristics on the nose with damp earth, a little espresso, a touch smoky, cinnamon and stewed plums. Medium tannins (6/10) and plus medium body. Dark cocoa on the attack of the palate intermingled with plums, black currants, black cherries and lots of spices. A bit of anise and the Petit Verdot coming through in the medium plus finish. Drink till 2018.

A Melka beauty that served as a nice follow-up to Bénetière’s gem. This had a green streak piercing the palate that dominated at first and was slightly off-putting, but it balanced itself out as the night wore on and proved to be quite harmonious with the other essences of the wine: exotic spices, mud/clay, plums, and créme de cassis.
