A Santa Barbara County Proprietary Red Wine. Unfiltered and unfined. Entirely constructed of Estrella-clone Syrah from two ends of the Santa Rita Hills and a sprinkling of Viognier. Native-yeast fermented with 40% whole cluster inclusion and raised in large neutral barrels for 26-months. Matthias’ expression of great Syrah from a great Syrah growing region, cool coastal vineyards north of Santa Barbara. Recommended to a little above cellar temperature.
NOSE
Young boysenberries. Steeping Darjeeling tea. A hint of barbecue smoke drifts by.
COLOR/MOUTHFEEL
The color of a deep burgundy Chrysler Cordoba. Big, velvety mouthfeel, but not Corinthian leather.
TASTE/FINISH
Taste: Black cherries, just before 100% ripe. A touch of blueberry pie, but savory, not sweet. Finish: A finish of black pepper with a touch of cocoa nib at the last few touches of finish. Juicy, bustling tannins right to the point where you think they’re a touch too bold, but then the finish reaches over and says “I believe you were mistaken”.

#capewine2018 — 8 years ago
Old world style from California central coast. The nose is redolent of Luxardo cherries and Antica Formula vermouth. On the palate, there is a battle between fruit and earth; deep, earthy forest flavors are offset by bright, tart spring cherries. Coastal botanicals play against wild fruit. Better than expected. — 10 years ago
Was recommended this blend from Hartenberg Cellar from the slopes of the Bottelary Hills Stellenbosch. It surprised me being elegant and classy on the palate and nose. Give it a try hopefully as a blend it won’t disappoint. — 5 years ago
The palate confirms the nose with mineral and citrusy aromas of limes, pears and green apples. Well-balanced acidity. 12.8% ABV. A very refreshing chardonnay from the Eola-Amity Hills in Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA.
The pioneers used the name Eola as a reference to the aeolian harp. A wind instrument named after Aeolus, the Greek god of the wind. The gap in this area of the Willamette Valley ushers in howling winds from the Pacific Ocean which are then trapped in the Coastal Range. Cheers!

Everything’s there. Obviously not a blockbuster vintage but also just holding back. Have a feeling the mineral kaleidoscope opens on this with some age. Into it. Maybe not for the money PERSONALLY but for people looking for real California coastal influence Chardonnay this is a good place to put a finger in it — 6 years ago
Definitely smooth and delicious. Dark balanced fruit — 7 years ago
Exquisite find. Nice balance between dry and fruit — 9 years ago
A lovely expression of the Plavac Mali grape, with this one grown on steep coastal hills.
Inky, dense and heady nose that evolves from sweet blueberry, cola bottles to raisins, figs and then leather. This bottle had a slight chemical note to it, but think that may have been the glass.
Medium acidity, chewy tannins and a drawing, medium length finish. — 10 years ago
Cherry and blackberry, accented by graphite and leather, juicy and gluggable. — 4 years ago
I’m not such a #pinotage fan but #neilellis is a great producer and this is a great expression. #southafricanwine — 4 years ago
