Le Tertre du Bosquet Sauternes White Bordeaux Blend 2019

Very nice Sauternes with delightful balance of fruit, flowers, sweetness and unctuousness, plus sufficient acids to bring it all together. Quite a delicious sipper. This was the very last bottle of Sauternes I could find at my local BevMo in Santa Monica, and it was just a half bottle at that. I should really go back to the Wine House or Wally’s for my wine purchases but this tells me how under appreciated Sauternes is in the U.S. A pity.
I enjoyed the 2019 vintage with homemade chicken liver pâté on toasted brioche.

Château Tertre de la Mouleyre

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Opened at home with Jeff on a three day weekend. Not sure where it was purchased but Vivino said it’s ¥8000. It is very yummy. Refined, classic French wine. Very good, fruity nose, long finish. Blackberry, raspberry, berry flavors. Sold @ Rakuten ¥8600.

Domaine Launay Horiot

Les Perrières Pommard Pinot Noir 2015

Beautiful color in the glass. Violets and cherry on the nose. Hits the palate perfectly with smooth tannins, medium acidity, resounding cherry and tilled earth notes. As it opens up notes of autumn leaves come to mind as well. Very well balanced. — 5 years ago

Les Vaumuriens Pommard Pinot Noir 2010

Violets but more airy than the Launay Horiot. Reductive and not much fruit showing through. Slightly candy, charming, more approachable than the one following it. Rather lean. Thought it was a 2007. — 7 years ago

Domaine Launay Horiot

Les Chaponnières Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

First experience with Launay-Horiot. While I've heard lots of good things about this rising star in Burgundy, the 15' Chaponnières was just underwhelming. Sure, there's balance and depth in the wine, but I expected a little more freshness and fineness from the domaine. Tasting notes from the professionals seem to indicate the prevalence of the vintage's warmth in this wine. Rich and earthy would best sum it up. Bouquet of cherry brandy, earth, mushroom, and graphite. The palate is muscular and smokey, balanced by well-judged acidity. Nice chalky tannins and finishes with a savory tang. A miss here for me especially for the price, but at least there wasn't any marmalade notes which I detest in Pino. Will seek out Xavier's wines again, but probably 16' onwards first. — 5 years ago

Pergolaia Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2006

I was quite happy with this super duper Tuscan. Quite, as it aged with grace and sophistication.
Pergolaia is harvested by hand in September from their Podere Serra all’olio and Podere Nocolino vineyards. Big, bombastic and mature flavors of plum, cherry, leather and cedar really shine in this smooth blend of mostly Sangiovese (with a small percentage of Cab Franc, Cab Sauv and Merlot. Elegant and well balanced drinking in every way, I'd say.

Calvados 1997

On the dry side for a Calvados of this age, this is evocative of a hyperconcentrated Norman cider, with everything from baking spice and apple pie to the barnyard funk of an Etienne DuPont. Apple and sour horse pussy. 👀 A cerebral one. — 4 years ago

Côtes de Bourg Sauvignon Gris 2019

2019 vintage. A rare chance to taste a 100% Sauvignon Gris, a variety that almost went extinct after phylloxera, but it's still present in Bordeaux and other regions, mainly as a blending grape. It is naturally low-yielding and matures early. Light golden colour. Intense perfume of fresh passion fruit and a hint of flowers. Round and ripe, with crisp exotic fruit and very good minty length. Great value and a very original Bordeaux. White Côtes de Bourg is already very rare, let alone a 100% Sauvignon Gris. — 4 years ago

Côtes de Bourg Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

My favourite Cotes De Bourg wine in a top vintage @ £60 😁 will keep improving 👍 If you’ve never tried this tiny region of Bordeaux you should check it out as there are some great value bottles here; this being one of the more expensive as made by the folks behind Tertre Roteboeuf 😎
