Château Le Breuil Renaissance

Claret Prestige North Yuba Proprietary Red Blend 2002

41% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Syrah, 7% Petit Verdot, 1% Sauvignon Blanc.

Sheet of sediment in bottle, stood upright 24 hours, before decant. Filtered into decanter. Nicely aged. Strong bottle notes in decant. I recommend 3 hr. Decant. 4 hours onward, fruit notes waned.

In the tasting notes, Marijuana resin is noted. Yes, there is a taste of hash or cannabis resin in the dark notes of the wine. Pleasant, well integrated, savory, in the know.

Delicious, mature beauty. Dark bottle notes, with still bright cherry note. Cherry notes notable for estate, beautiful energy in wines.

Enjoy now.

Mediterranean Red Rhone Blend 2006

50% Mourvedre, 25% Syrah, 25% Grenache, biodynamic, hand picked fruit. (Rating 9.2-9.3)

Thank you for being present then, to be my present now. Great Job!

Amazing 14 year old GSM from California. Cherry notes are surprisingly fresh and vibrant, well balanced (acid/tannin) delicious dark notes in the background (leather, chocolate, tannin). Fruity without being sweet. “With 0.4% residual sugar — not so much to make it even remotely sweet or turn it into a stereotype of a California fruit bomb, but enough to render it tender” - Wicker Parker - 11.01.2010 http://www.renaissancewinery.com/scripts/winepg.cfm/_/8/2006/Mediterranean-Red/

Opens with confectioner’s sugar on the nose. The fat kid in me loves it. Pears and wildflowers and acid for days, minerals. Beeswax. Then when it opens it tastes like you’ve sliced into the juiciest grapefruit and are eating it whole with a little honey. Good stuff. Like spatlese. — 6 years ago

Merlot 1999

Next to the Claret blend from the same year this seemed slightly one dimensional but on its own terms the easygoing mature dark fruit and hint of leather and mocha was exceptional with an epic prime rib, still some good structure for a merlot this old — 7 years ago

François Chidaine

Les Choisilles Montlouis-sur-Loire Chenin Blanc

I have been on a tear for Chidaine's wines since I was browbeaten into ordering the 2013 Clos de Breuil by the bartender at The European in Melbourne and the seductive mysteries of Montlouis were laid out before me. Listen, this Les Choiselles is really lovely, especially when you pick up a case of the 2009 at auction for a song. Beguiling aromas of ripe apple and lime, totally ready to drink, with laser focused acidity to keep this wine on its toes. How many more decades will this drink so beautifully? Satisfying to know that there are 11 more bottles in the cellar to evaluate over the next 3 decades or so. Will report back then. — 9 years ago
