Our convict-friends down under are flexing their muscles with this. It's a huge departure from Napa and France, so make some mental adjustments before pulling the cork.
It requires at least 4hrs in a decanter, so plan accordingly.
The nose is dominated by cedar and sandalwood, chased by jammy dark fruits. No heat on the palette, but tannins are still evident. Notes of wet asphalt, Indian spices, sweet dark cherries put a capstone on what is a flamboyant, yet restrained Shiraz. Perfect balance is attained with juicy acidity and 13.5 abv, which accounts for the lack of heat that I was expecting. This easily has another 10 years of runway ahead of it, so no rush to consume these. — 10 years ago

Caparone is my favorite PR producer. I love that they have raised prices less than a handful of times since they started. Capstone they are a no nonsense wine producer. This Nebbiolo has a very light brick color almost like a rose. But it is an acidic Nebbiolo with loads of tannins. Love this american Nebbiolo. This is the kind you buy in cases and drink with everything from roasted boar to a midnight puttanesca. — 11 years ago

Poured from double magnum... For such a crappy vintage in Burgundy, this is truly outstanding.
The nose is very delicate, giving up barrel toast cherries, berries and a slightly sweet edge. Weightless on the tongue with an uncommon purity. An extended finish of rich dark fruits put a capstone on the "wine-of-the-night — 10 years ago

A night of excess was brought to a funny conclusion with this. We tried to cool it rapidly in the freezer. Alas, our goldfish-like brains forgot the wine in the freezer 🙄

On the muted nose, there was pain grille and butterscotch. On the palette, we were greeted by soft ice crystals- kind of like a slushy. The wine had a high-pitched, tense mid palette, finishing with shortbread. A wonderful capstone on a great evening.
